It's a shame that younger folks only see and hear the DW of today. Back in the day he was the kid who came to NASCAR to rattle the old guard. Rattle he did.
He sure did...man i hated that guy back then...got so tired of seeing him win bristol,i quit going for a while..lol
he was kinda like harvick...a mouthy little jerk...just my opinion....lol
The Phil Rizzuto of motorsports. I saw him on TV calling Yankees games every weekend for years but was too young to see him actually play the game. All I knew him for was saying "Holy Cow" and his stupid local commercials for The Money Store
DW is sort of the same guy these days
Faster than a bullet from a gun
He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison

Ex ARCA, ASA and local bullring crewdog. I remember when racing was really racing and the Talladega Express!!!
Being from Kentucky, you would think he would have been my favorite driver, but I never could stand the guy. He always rubbed me the wrong way.

PCLM/Winston West action at what looks like the old Speedway 605 in Irwindale, Calif. Don't know who was driving the Pontiac but He's obviously confused about which direction to drive on an American speedway. Ray Elder (#96) is not confused. Picture is compliments of Robert Robinson.

Guys, I'll get back into this stuff after things settle down a little. Although we're down at Corbin until July 3, I'm trying to help some other tracks out and working on other things, along with trying to get my computer files sorted out a little better.
Same here! Work has kept me on the road constantly the last few months. Hard to keep up with everything when your away from home.
I was 12. I was with my parents at Daytona at a restaurant when the waitress came up and apologized for seeming to be so sad as Fireball had passed away. I recall figuring out fairly quickly that she was talking about Fireball.
He never really had a chance.
That was the year that Fred Lorenzen broke his wrist in a crash, I think.
Two of Richie Evans since he was elected into the NASCAR HoF this week
This was taken at 1979 Turkey Derby at Wall Stadium in NJ
This one was at New Smyrna Speedway in February 1985. Not a good pic, I was using a disc camera at the time

FYI, fellas, I'm going back through that thread that was deemed "off topic" on the H.A.M.B. and copying/cataloging photos to post here and on the NASCAR thread. I'm about halfway through, so bear with me.
256 pages is a lot of stuff to sift through, John.
I'm getting there, btb. Up to 160.
Finally got all the way through the photos on the HAMB. Bunch today, maybe more tomorrow. Bobby Allison at Salem in an ARCA race.

One night when Bobby Allison was late getting to the Fairgrounds Motor Speedway in Louisville, Charlie Glotzbach shook down the car for him. Doesn't look like Bobby is too sure about what Charles is telling him. A Wayne Doebling photo.
