Whoa. No less than four guys there with a hometown connection. Mr. Crockett, Mr. Pfeiffer, Mr. Black and Mr. Norris.

Thanks John. Now I'd better get back to the laundry, which beckons.

Page from the program of a combo USAC Silver Crown/Dirt modified race at the Nazareth Mile from 1982 or 83.

Faster than a bullet from a gun
    He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison

Salem Speedway is one fast joint. Plenty of nasty spills over the years. This one looks particularly nasty.

A couple I took. Gary at the fairgrounds, I believe.

I spoke to Schrader last year and he remembered the other race day at Terre Haute as his first time in the Delrose-Holt car. Took the pole. Gary won that day though...

Just posted this one over on the Nostalgia forum in response to a discussion about NASCAR open wheel races. This is Buck Baker and his "Speedway" division car on the beach in 1952. They were basically champ cars like AAA at the time, powered by stock block engines. This one had a Cadillac in in. In addition to various dirt tracks, they did the flying mile on the beach with them during their annual speedweeks...

Jigger Sirois 1970 IndyCar and a Platypus?

IndyCar borrows a design from nature - and it almost worked.

Wanna know what's wrong with NASCAR? They've gone from Junior Johnson to Jimmie Johnson.

Wanna know what's wrong with IndyCar? It's gone from dirt ovals to street races.
