The first round of the RallyCar Series new Global Rally Cross debuted at Irwindale Speedway with Marcus Gronholm kicking everyone's arse. Did anyone else follow this event? What did you think of it compared to the NJMP events last year?
For myself, I thought it was a good spectator event, and will make an excellent TV event. ...not sure I'd go so far as to call it rally cross, though.

I know this is an old thread, but I've caught a couple of RallyCross events on ESPN. I've never watched a rally event of any kind before - at least not more than a few minutes on a highlight reel or on YouTube. The format is interesting, and I could see it really appealing to younger fans to whom NASCAR and IndyCar just seem a little out of touch. It'll be interesting to see if it gains any steam over the next few years.
What kind of budget does it take to run these things? I assume it's more money than I think, given that those cars looked pretty darn professional.
I vaguely recall that the car Tanner used on Top Gear to set the indoor speed record was his Global RallyCross car. He said the car costs $400K. Now I know he might have rounded up to quote an impressive number for the purpose of building drama into the segment, but are they really close to a half-million each?
