    Astros 2011 Thread

Ok, since the Rangers have a thread and the Reds always have one, it is time that bottom of the standings be recognized also.

Yes, my beloved Astros start the season 0-3. We have Halladay beat until the bottom of the 9th when our closer gives up 6 hits and the victory.

    Anyway: Go Astros!!!!
After years of fighting and a split, guess what, we are all IndyCar

October will always be a sad racing month for me. RIP Greg and Dan. You both were great and we miss you.

Astros... do they get a royalty everytime somebody new installs Astro-Turf?

Do they get billed when somebody gets turf toe?

Their AAA affiliate is in Oklahoma City now isn't it? Anyone to keep an eye on down on the farm?

Astros are young and they have speed with Bourn and Bourgeios but their pitching is standard fare mediocre beyond Myers. Had to say Wallace is going to have to do better defensively (he should have had that pop-up foul he let drop) and I wonder if Lee can hit like that all year.

That being said, if Wandy rebounds and pitches well the rest of the season and they get some pitcher to light it up as a quality #3 then why couldn't they compete? The NL Central is wide open medicore the way the NL West had been for a while....Pence is a legit three hole hitter, Bourn is a table setter, Quintero has a gun. Take away Lyon's inning and the bullpen wasn't htat bad. Left side of the infield does nothing for me but I don't think the Astros are going to collapse like it sounds some Astros fans are already proclaiming.

This is a young team but they will not quit. They were actually pretty good the second half of the season. Johnson is going ot be a real good third baseman. And Pence is the real deal. Hopefully, they will contend.

Go Astros! Your time will come...hopefully when it does, you'll win the Series instead of getting swept.

Do they get a nickle every time Astro appears in a Jetson's re-run?

On a torrid pace to go 0-162. Lost to Ren's Reds last night 8-2. Wow, no hitting, no pitching. But I expect this young team to keep fighting and they will get things on the right track. Soon I hope.

0-6. 12-4 loss to the Reds. Wow. 5 errors. Just plan ugly.

Hey Ren, would you call Dusty Baker and see if he will play the Double AA guys today to give the Stros a chance.

Good news for the Astros though is Meyers is pitching today.

In honor of Ken Hoffman (you Houstonians should know the name)...

Did you here that the Astros won't be serving beer this season?

    They lost the opener...!!

I'm going to see them play the Cubbies next Wednesday. They have some talent and when they get Castro back they'll likely sho some improvement. Quintero is a good defensive catcher, but neither he or J.R. Towles are Major League hitters. After two starts, Brett Myers looks like he may repeat last season's good performance.

Hey, the 'stros have a better record than Tampa Bay and the World Series-bound Red Sox!!!

    Astros Win, Astros Win!

Ok, so we only took one out of 3 from the Marlins. But a good outing from Happ. Now, lets see with we can take at least 2 from the Cubbies.

Oh my, two wins in 3 games. "Stros won last night 1-0 over the Padres. Bud Norris finally pitched well. Astros at 4-9. Will they finally win a series? Stay tuned.

There is potential there. I watched Wandy implode Wednesday night, but they came back last night. Matt Downs is on a roll, hitting over .400. I like Johnson, but I hope they leave Matt in at third until his streak plays out.

Sanchez and Pence are hitting well, even Wallace is at a respectable .262. If the pitching holds up, the Astros could have a decent season.

Lee continues to disappoint at .212.

I'm going to the game again Saturday and Nelson is pitching. Hope he gets it together like he was last season.

Like I mentioned, I was at the Wednesday game too. Wandy looked awful to start the game (5-0 in the 1st), but stablized things to let them get back in the game...well, except for the LONG home run the pitcher (Zambrano) hit. I never saw a distance on it, but it had to have been 400' plus. Not too shabby, he has 22 career HR's.

The really pitiful thing was there were only about 20,000 people there and if you take away the 5,000-7,000 Cub fans you have a pretty bleak outlook. They had the roof open, it was a great night to go to a game, but many Houston fans are "fair-weather" at best.

The team does have some interesting young players. I really like Downs and the SS Sanchez. Pence looks goofy, but he's a solid player. If Myers can keep pitching well, and Wandy can get back to normal they can at least avoid any long losing streaks. They won't be a playoff team, but they can hang in there and win 70-75 games.

Well, at least we didn't lose a series this time. Split with Padres 2-2. But the bullpen blew the lead yesterday.

Still, this young team has settled down after a horrible start and has played .500 ball over the last 10 games. On to New York for the Mets.

Astros win, 6-1 over the Amazing Mets. Wandy goes 7 strong innings for first win. Stros are 6-11 but 5-5 over last ten. A big improvement from starting the seson 0-5.

It was nice to see Wandy do well, but that's his M.O. Good outing, lousy outing, good outing, lousy outing . . . .

Also nice to see the hitting is holding up--Towles, Downs, and Sanchez all over .300, Bourn, Pence, Wallace, and Q all over .270. Lee is up to .250. I feel bad for Johnson, he's really in a hitting rut below .200 after finishing last season over .300.

The 'stros won again tonight at home against the cards. Good, close game. Nice to see Berkman get a standing ovation, too bad the place was half empty.

Great clutch hit by Bill Hall to win it. Berkman looks like he jumped in a time machine and went back 10 seasons.

I'd like to see J.A. Happ throw a good game tonight.

Wish Berkman was back in an Astros uniform playing like that. Think the Cards would trade Berkman for Lee?

Stros 8th and 9th inning comeback falls short. After trailing 6-0 through 7, we make it interesting with 3 in the 8th and 2 inthe 9th, but fall 6-5. Still, this team is playing good ball and is fun to watch. They don't quit.

Astros drop 2 of 3 to the Cards. Berkman makes the Astros miss him with 4 hits (2 homers) and 5 RBIs in the final game of the series. Astros fall to 9-16 on the season (9-11 since the 0-5 start) The Bullpen is killing them. Their top 3 starters, Myers, Rodriguuez, and Norris have done pretty good lately, but our pen stinks.

The Brew crew is in town for 3 games. Fortunately for the Stros, we have Myers, Wandy, and Norris pitching this weekend. Go Astros!!!!

NO! We have respected and feared Berkman for years as an Astro. There is no way the Cards are sending him anywhere. In fact, if Pujols walks after this year, the Cards will likely offer Lance the moon to stay and play first.
Officer Mitchell, I thought you said you didn't want to have to come back here this evening.

St. Louis has a class act in Lance. I hope he returns to the Astros in next year. But I am very happy for Lance and the way he is playing.

It's interesting that Lance didn't make it as a Yankee. He's been a Reds-killer for a number of years and that has not changed since he's returns to the NL Central. On one hand, I'm glad to see him doing well, but I wish it was with an AL team or maybe a Japanese team.

Unfortunately, it looks like he may be an Astros-killer also.

Yep. Stepped in day 1 and has been a leader in the clubhouse and is reaching out in the community.

His teammates love him. On the first West Coast trip of the year, one of the younger players showed up at the airport in a turtleneck (it was cold here.) When they arrived Lance went to a department store and bought turtlenecks for the entire team and declared the next flight turtlenecks only. The entire team had fun walking through LAX and into Dodger Stadium wearing their turtlenecks.
