Yes, one design had a road course as a part of the oval. One design was oval only. A third design was that the track would be a three-mile oval. This plan was rejected when it was pointed out to the founders that there would be no room, within the existing parameters, to build grandstands on the outside of the track.

To end it, the four original owners of the track in the very beginning thought that the speedway should be 5 miles long.
