Apparently facebook has jumped the shark...

Kinda like jumping the shark has...

They claim that over 6 million Americans pulled out of facebook last month... "they" say that it's because it isn't considered cool any longer what with all our mothers on it trading recipes.

"They" claim it has nothing to do with the facebook effort to have "The Donald" removed from the Pace Car. I'm not convinced, I think a lot of people wanted to see what that hair was gonna do at 120 in an open convertible.

All I know is that I pulled out over 6 months ago...

two months from turning 60 and I'm still a trendsetter!

Hey, when I got on it just over a year ago my jaw flat dropped with how many people from high school wanted to get back in touch with me. My class was 1982. I thought, WHOA, this place is crawling with GEEZERS!!

I still like it, though. Quick, easy way to find someone, for free.

So if you never bothered to join, does that make you the ultimate trendsetter?

I joined to keep an eye on my pup.
Had exactly 1 person from my past ask me if I was who I was.
She implemented the cone of silence when I told her I was happily married.

If you are almost 60 I should'nt think you'd need to worry about pulling out.

Actually, I've enjoyed it, and I resisted getting on. My daughter talked me into it. It's also been a great spot for me with folks asking about my book.

Denis Leary in his stand-up routine says any guy 50 years old or older with a facebook page should just shoot himself, or words to that effect.

    Yeah, this Denis Leary

I have the same thing with old high school classmates. A few I barely remember the names and had to dust off the old yearbooks for a refresher. They are now putting the hard sell on the high scool reunion that will happen next year. So far I gave them a definate maybe.

FB is a good place to connect with like minded race fans plus some of the drivers that race too. A few get a little transparent with their favorite drink, dive and even their tenuous relationships but I was their age too.

I wil get an odd ball invite every now and then. The one that sticks out in my mind is an invite by a shapely young lady. The poor thing must have been so focused on having her picture taken that she forgot to wear anything from the waste up. Then she said on the invite how handsome and sexy my profile picture looks. I figure she badly needed a trip to the optometrist.

I think that would depend on the age of what I'm pulling out of...

I had two issues... one I was spending too much time on it, and yes I know, kinda like Trackforum. The second was privacy issues. Personally I like all my Mom's recipes.

Are you sure Leary said that?

I'm pretty familiar with all of Bill Hicks' material and I don't remember this....

Always admired Hicks for repeatedly pushing the boundaries as well as checking out before there was a facebook.

Seems like everybody and their brother is sending me those stooooooopid "do You think Kevin...." questions lately.

My updates are maybe weekly and frequently absurd.

I've never joined, and am proud of that statement.

I see no downside of being a member of facebook. It takes very little effort to hide posts from people of whom you don't want to read and hide your posts from people of whom you don't want to see.

Facebook was a lot more fun when you could keep track of when your friends were headed to the grocery store. Once everyone started using it to pimp their causes and sell their crap, it stopped being as fun.

All I use it for is trading news stories to read, with friends...Recipes? NOW THAT sounds like a good idea...Have to try it...
My major malfunction is...I want the people I love and respect to live forever...The problem is...Life don't work that way...

P.S. Questions, comments, death threats, invitations to a pigs bris, my number is still (317) 809-4483

So I take it that you've never been a member of facebook while dating two different women?

Nice. I am a big BH fan and I will never forget the first time I heard Leary talking about Jim Fixx dying while jogging and a bunch of smoking jokes stolen from Bill. I know lots of comics steal jokes, but this was really blatant, not-even-bothering-to-hide-it stealing. Hated Leary ever since.

You know what they say about why Leary is famous...because there's "No Cure for Cancer."

Good, now you understand the dilemma I was faced with.

What's crazy is that this was developed to keep track of on Campus relationships... by Dudes!?! I just hope somebody got their man cards on their way to the bank.
