    2013 Race Schedule

    From the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:
The street race could come in fall 2013. A group of racing world insiders want to host a grand prix in which IndyCar drivers would follow a course along State Road A1A and surrounding seaside streets.

The Fort Lauderdale Grand Prix race promoters include construction executive Dale Dillon, who has been involved in the grand prix in St. Petersburg and Toronto, and Ryan Hunter-Reay, a top IndyCar driver who grew up in the area. They received permission from the IndyCar Series to explore a Fort Lauderdale race and will pursue detailed engineering plans for a race route if the city gives the go-ahead.

I think this would be way off balance.

    Should be 10/5/5, IMHO.

Need more flat ovals like Milwaukee and short ovals like Iowa, Richmond and Dover.

I know they're different parts of the state, but TWO FLA street races? Think I'll pass.

    They haven't finalized/ announced 2012 yet and we're already getting knotted-up over 2013?

I'm not privvy as to whether Indycar has a contract with Loudon (New Hampshire) for "x" amount of races, but I'd venture to say that if this years race doesn't draw many fans, it won't be re-scheduled for 2012. Heard rumors that the Vintage Race Car Meet could take it's place on the calendar - if they even have that.

Here is the latest on the possible future Las Vegas double header with an oval and street course:
Bernard said he fully expects that within five years there will be an IndyCar street race built around the famous Las Vegas Strip and that his dream scenario would be to promote a double-header: a Friday night oval race at the Vegas Speedway and a Sunday afternoon street race at the Strip.

That would be a horrible schedule - needs to be 50/50

No thanks to another God forsaken street parade, and no thanks to a 65%/35% non-oval to oval ratio. Ain't gonna fly.

Road America has already said their ALMS weekend is set in stone. The Sunday event is a showcase for Corvette(Chevrolet) which is a track sponsor.

How much more can this be repeated?

i think a lot of people on this board get to invested in their dreasm of having race xyz back on the calander. they were really great races back in the day. things are different now. a lot of the ovals are now run by nascar. a lot of the citys are broke with little money to put on a street race. the series itself doesnt seem to have its self fully together in the head office. most of these classics probably wont be coming back. the only one that makes any since to me, when you look at all thats changed, is road america.

Maybe to you, but not to the track. They don't seem willing to pay the fee IndyCar needs. Wants is one thing, needs is another. The track needs to sell sponsorship to make it happen, and that's been RA's problem for 10 years.

19 races? He'll be lucky if there are 14.

Bernard also needs to stop putting dates and deadlines with all his little speeches. Aero kit announcement...

    More from More Front Wing:

IndyCar interested in Chicagoland Speedway return, hopes to talk to Pocono soon. Reason for no RA/MIS is they want Milwaukee/Detroit to both grow first.

That's Randy being kind to both sides, the real reason is Road America and MIS are offering too little a sanction fee. Roger Curtis admitted this in an email to I think TF member Z28. If we figure that Sonoma/Laguna will represent northern Cal, we start at 15 events again. Where do the new 4 come from? Houston we know. I should imagine he's hoping for Phoenix and I guess Pocono as ovals. I wonder if he's hoping 2 of the 3 ovals (Phx,Poc,Chi) can make a deal? I guess Ft. Lauderdale as well.

Bernard says he expects to have the schedule finalized by Sep. 1st, so expect to have it in October (You know somebody has to say it )

Randy also said there's interest in a 3rd Canada race, which I assume is this ever going Quebec City race.

Should also ask what year? It could be 2013? 19 races next year NO WAY. That would mean 4 race not on schedule and keeping 15 races Indycar has now. Randy has never kept all the races. Does any track owner like Randy?

    Written in pencil.

    October of what year?

RB has been trashed on this board - tells me we will have a schedule by when he says and it will be this years 15 plus Houston plus Ft Lauderdale plus some combination of Chicago, Pocono, third Canadian race. That protects races in Milwaukee, Detroit, Baltimore and allows them to grow. Everyone happy? IBiI

I wholeheartedly disagree with this line of thinking. I think that when you put two events in close geographic proximity of each other, each helps the other; not hurts. It's like saying that if baseball played half as many games their per-game attendance would double. Or if football played twice as many games that the stadiums would be half full. Think about that - it's totally illogical. Did NASCAR's attendance go up or down when they expanded their schedule? Added events in a market raises awareness - something IndyCar could desperately use. Awareness is the first step is the first step in the purchase funnel, if I can borrow some marketing lingo. If RB wants Milwaukee and Belle Isle to grown then he should add RA and Michigan because that would certainly help the cause. People would start to think that IndyCar is getting to be a big deal again and maybe they should get their butts out to a race.

I agree with you tief, but again I think money is the reason. Randy is not going to tell reporters that two tracks can't afford our sanction ing fee.

It s not a matter of not being able to afford it, its a matter of actual cost vs the return. I don't care how much indycar thinks its worth, or how much it needs to survive, but when you have other series asking 6 times less and bringing in the same amount of people, if not more with 4 day events then whats the point of even trying to rationalize the cost.

I 100% agree with this. As a Wisconsin native, I know part of the reason open-wheel racing was so big up there was because we got it twice. It helped with familiarity. My NASCAR-loving aunt went with me to Milwaukee this year and had a blast but she told me it took her until about 10 laps to go to even figure out who everyone was. She was extremely excited about the possibility of being able to go to a race at Road America now that she new the series a little bit. I can't believe IndyCar would step on their own throats like that in these midwestern markets.
