Thread: 2013 Race Schedule

  1. #61
On Trackside last night, Marc Koretzky (COO / President of the Commercial Division) said that they expect to announce 2 races for the 2013 schedule this spring. This would make some sense in helping to reach RB's goal of having 19 races in 2013 (mentioned during his interview last week on Trackside). In addition, Koretzky said they are planning to announce the full schedule much earlier than they did for 2012 (I think I've heard September mentioned by a couple people).

So what 2 races are most likely to be announced, assuming they are new/returning to the schedule? I would think they would come from a group including: Houston, Ft. Laurderdale, Vegas (Street), Phoenix, Richmond, Chicago, Road America, Watkins Glen.

Personally I want Road America, and Phoenix. But most likely it will be ft. lauderdale and houston

I can't see Australia have a race in March when the F1 race in Melbourne is also in March. If they were back to back weekends, then it would work well for international travelers, but you've gotta imagine that the locals would be the major audience, and they aren't likely to go to 2 different major international motor racing events in 2 different parts of the country within a couple of weeks of each other.

    25 races? Yes please!

However, isn't Edmonton gone soon? I had heard they wanted to pave under the airport for real estate.

Also... Laguna Seca and Gateway pleaseeeeee xD

The Edmonton promoter just took over the event, and seemingly did a good job turning the event around financially. I don't see the Edmonton race going away anytime soon.

We will get more details about the Houston event on Wednesday, but we know this event will happen in 2013. Two other likely events for '13 are Phoenix and Fort Lauderdale. Lauderdale could end up as a Fall race, but Randy has stated he would like to start the season earlier.

Out of curiosity. Isn't Mexico destabilizing as a country due to drug crime? I know the FIA pulled WTCC out of Mexico because of safety concerns? Can someone correct or confirm what I'm saying?

Hm... I'll bet on Mexico, Chicago, Las Vegas and Australia won't happen for sure.

Listing Mexico is based on comments from last Fall.
The president of IndyCar’s commercial division, Terry Angstadt, revealed to La Aficion that they would like to have a race at the Hermanos Rodriguez track and a Mexican driver in the series.

We are in conversations with strong companies to be able to return to the city and go to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez”, revealed the series executive in an exclusive interview for La Aficion.

With the arrival of new chassis and engines for 2012, which will represent a revolution for the series, IndyCar does not wish to limit its markets to the USA, Canada and Brazil, and because of that Mexico is an obvious choice for an event: “I think that everything points to 2013. I don’t think the negotiations will allow us to do it by 2012, but it’s still too early to decide.”

lizardfolk, to answer your question, yes, Mexico is somewhat concerning safety wise, but so is Brazil. One of President Obama's daughters recently went to Mexico with her class on a springbreak trip. There are places you definitely don't go, but I don't believe it is as big a deal as some make it out. I would have been more concerned with the health outbreak they had a couple of years ago, but that appears to be well over, and no concern.

As a KC resident, it would be great if Indycar came back to Kansas Speedway....but the last few races were ghost towns....little to no promotion and no date equity.

Honestly, I would like at least some presence in Mexico. One race I think would be a good move, especially if we had a Mexican driver, such as Jourdain. Will it happen for 2013? I would be surprised at this point.

I think Houston is a go, Ft. Lauderdale is likely, and I think we'll be seeing races at Phoenix, Pocono, and Michigan over Mexico myself.

What I would like? A bigger presence in Canada and a race in Mexico.

A street race in Chicago? Where is this silliness coming from?

"IndyCar would love to come back to Surfers Paradise," Mr Bernard said.

"It makes sense we continue on after China -- it is more economical from a freight point of view."

IndyCar is also looking at the possibility of racing in Perth.

Mr Bernard said a promoter had already "expressed interest" in taking the series to WA following the demise of the Red Bull Air Race.
Treasurer Andrew Fraser said any proposition would need to offer "value for money".

"We already have a great Gold Coast company here (V8 Supercars) bringing an international event until 2013," he said.
The LNP also acknowledged the success of the V8s but added the party would like to see the "glamour" return to the city.

Surfers Paradise MP John-Paul Langbroek said if the LNP were elected, the party would be open to talking with IndyCar to see it return to the city.

"We don't want to lose out to Western Australia," he said.
    http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/...coast-600.html

The earliest Indycar is likely to return to Australia is 2014. One thing that is in favor is that the economy is likely to be back on the upswing by then.

I'm a KC resident as well and I miss Kansas Speedway.....hope Randy keeps his promise from 2010 and the Indy comes back, its a 1.5 mile track with favorable (safer) banking for Indy-style cars

a July night race would be ideal in my mind or even like the week after Iowa as those 2 tracks are only like 4 hours apart and would be easy travel logistics

A possible street race in Chicago has been reported by numerous outlets, but here is one from the Indystar.com.
There's also been rumblings that Bernard has been in contact with Pocono officials about a return to that track, and possibly adding a race through the streets of Chicago.
    http://www.indystar.com/article/2012...-2013-schedule

As we have seen with races like Baltimore and possibly Fort Lauderdale, it generally takes 2 to 3 years for a street race to come to fruition. I wouldn't expect any street race in Chicago to actually take place until 2014, and more likely 2015 or 16. A lot of politics in Chicago.

I shudder to think how much "grease" those wheels would need in Chicago......... or what promoter actually has enough money to "fund" it.

Let's not forget Las Vegas Strip! Randy must be working on that too.

  22. #82
Eventhough I'm a west site Missouri resident, I kinda doubt that Kansas returns. Aren't they increasing the banking at Kansas similar to what Vegas switched to? I attended the first several oven events at Kansas and just got tired of sitting in the heat so I didn't attend the last couple. Guess me not going was part of the fan fallout there. But racing in this part of the country in July is dumb. As was racing here in April.....horrible months for weather.

You may have seen it in numerous outlets, and if you've got one better than a rumor go ahead. There has been nothing reported IN Chicago. I know everybody from someplace else thinks they know so much about Chicago and politics, you don't have the first clue how many legitimate governmental hurdles would have to be cleared to shut down city streets and construct a circuit. You aren't just going to show Rahm Emanuel pictures of Long Beach and have him turn over Lake Shore Dive to somebody. You know there's a lake to the east of Chicago with beaches at one end of Lake Shore Drive, parks, the museum campus near Soldier Field as well as McCormick Place convention center. When you close down LSD, you would cut off access to at least some of those things for days, and boy I'd like to see the promoter who could sell that. Don't hold your breath until 2016.

This is something I read and took it like Cavin was given a tale that made INDYCAR look like they were trying to add ovals. Even if it wasn't so. If there's any chance of racing in Kansas it has to be June through mid September. If it's going to be a Sunday race it basically has to be early June or September, otherwise the risk of it being just plain too hot is too great. The June INDYCAR schedule was crowded and became very full with Detroit being added and September would have one date. You don't know if the track is interested in a Saturday night race, that Saturday day race was wide open seating and I was there, or if that fits the NBCSports schedule in the Summer.

So what unacceptable date did the track offer and when exactly did they talk? The first weekend of June before it went to Detroit or was it the open date after Baltimore? Because obviously another ISC track president knew when the California date was.

Until more is known about what date they were talking about there's no real way to know if this is just a PR story planted with a receptive writer or something INDYCAR is really interested in.

Why is it we don't go to Mexican ovals for IndyCar?

MOst of that is centered around Juarez. Mexico City is no worse than Sao Paulo.

Mexico has more of a Road Racing heritage in my opinion. Plus Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a pretty awesome track.

Not to mention the facilities aren't up to snuff in any way on those ovals in Mexico.

This oval's practically 100% flat... i think the speeds are low enough to not need safer barriers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q25YKJVqEI0

Actually why doesn't IndyCar go here? This looks good

Ahh ok, thanks for the education. Just saw a lot of horrible drug crimes happening in Mexico but I don't know if it's all of Mexico or just a few key really bad areas

In sao paulo, they ship everything into the track and barricade the teams and equipment in. Can't leave and tour around the city. There is NO WAY Mexico city is half as bad as Sao Paulo. The trouble is driving the transporters through all of Mexico. THAT there could be bad. Someone would have to foot the bill to fly in.

Aguascalientes would be PERFECT. Great clean town with minimal crime and a pretty cool oval. You smoothen out the bumps a little and that should be good.
