    Booze

Alright, TrackForum, let's hear it. What's your preferred brand and octane of hooch?

I have eclectic tastes, but as far as a go-to drink I can get almost anywhere, it's bourbon, usually Maker's Mark or Knob Creek. Though if it's going in with Coke, I stick to Jim Beam, and if it's a cocktail that I want to be perfect, I go with Woodford Reserve.

I can't drink anymore. But when I could I liked diet coke with Jack Daniels, Jose Cuervo Gold tequila with a bunch of limes, hold the salt. For my screwdriver or just plain I like Stoli vodka. I liked Beefeater dry Gin.

Now the one alcohol you cannot even pay me to drink is Bailey's Irish creme...I could vomit just thinking about that stuff, ew.

Well since this is a food thread...

If I am having a steak in a nice restaurant, very dry gin martini, Blue Sapphire, blue cheese stuffed olives
    Pizza, fish, Mexican, Mic Ultra

Just for the sheer joy of it Johnny Walker Red

Got sick on Stoli's once, I know for a fact I will never get sick on it again....

Good point on the food, beej. I think for a steak I like Argentine red wine. I realize the French classics will blow them away, but with Steak au Poivre or some other bold beef, a middle of the road red with a nice dark color is perfect.

Good red wine - zinfandel, meritage, cabernet varietals, pinot, decent merlots, CDP, barolos. Never been a shiraz fan. I stay away from wines labels with animals on them.

Scotch - single malts mostly Macallan, Oben, Glenlivet, Glenmorangie - none of those peaty malts.

    Bourbon - Makers, Woodford, Knob

I go neat on the whisky. Two fingers wil last me at least a couple of hours.

I actually like all of the above without food. My palate is so ignorant that the food screws me up.

Heading to Napa in a couple of weeks and will visit Cade, Paul Hobbs, and Mauritson.

Used to have a junior high teacher who was an alcoholic and I once asked him what his favorite beer was and he said "I like them all!".

Me, I am a bourbon drinker, with Diet Coke I prefer Jim Beam, but others I like are Woodford, Knob Creek and Maker's Mark. As for beers, I like Amstel Light and Heineken Light when I can find it.

I drink very little anymore, but I've always liked Bacardi rum and Coke. If I drink now it is usually beer. If I'm in the mood for a lighter beer I order Corona. For a fuller-bodied beer I like Sam Adams and Shiner Bock.

    Wine-Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabs
Scotch-Oben, Glenfiddich, and Glenlivet are preferred. But we've been drinking Dewars lately.
Vodka-Grey Goose, Ketel One, Absolute, Smirnoff's Orange
Kahlua-to add to the Vodka, occasionally
    Rum-Bacardi
    Beer-nothing too hoppy.

I do believe the first mixed drink I ever had was something called a Bacardi cocktail... I think that went out like the Pink Lady , my Mom's rare but special occasion drink. Made us giggle when Mom ordered it. Mom ordering a Pink Lady... still makes me smile...

Pretty much an exclusively beer guy here. I do enjoy an occasional Jack and Coke, but really gotta watch it with those. They sneak up on me too quick.

The right beer depends on the place, time, food in front of me, etc. Not much of a domestic light beer person unless I'm golfing, then it works out nice to keep the thirst at bay without weighing me down. After a round on a hot day, nothing works better than a cold Blue Moon with some orange in it.

Otherwise, darker stuff. Sam Adams is one of my favs, as is Fat Tire (can't get that in Hawaii unfortunately). We have the Kona Brewing Company out here that makes FANTASTIC beers, haven't had one that I didn't like so far. If you ever happen to stumble across a six-pack of Longboard Lager, Big Wave Golden Ale, Pipeline Porter, or Coco Loco Brown Ale, do yourself a favor and stock up.
Livin' the good life as poorly as possible.

Is anyone here a fan of Sol beer? I really enjoy it, especially in the summer. Trouble is, it has gotten harder and harder to find in lovely Terre Haute.

Why do I find the phrase "stumble across" in a booze thread funny? I have a friend that yearns for beers from the Kona Brewery, sounds like very good stuff....

Haha....good catch. Pun not intended but I like how it worked out.

Kona Brews are absolutely spectacular. Best I think I've ever had.

I'm pretty much the same except Coke, ice or water never touches my bourbon. Same with single malt Scotch. Slowly sip and savor only.

I don't play very well with brown liquor. I mostly drink vodka...and not so much of that anymore.

    my favorite booze is "free"

other than that... mostly "rot gut" whiskey with a splash of water or just on the rocks. most any beer is totally acceptable, but being a poor boy i tend to go with the $10.00/12 pack variety.. say like natural light.

not really sure if i could tell the difference between "really good booze" and just booze.

nothing has ever made me puking sick and i rarely get a hangover from anything unless i totally abuse it.

guess i drink for the buzz more than the taste..

Over the past week, we took care of our neighbor's house and cat while they were gone. Water plants, clean litter box, etc.

They brought us a bottle of Oban as a thank you.

Don't drink much at all anymore, but occasionally an old favorite, Stoli straight up with three olives.

    I also prefer bourbon.

If you ever find yourself with a few hundred spare dollars laying around, get yourself a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle's 23 year Family Reserve. I realize individual bourbon tastes vary greatly, but it is by far my favorite bourbon.

I am certainly no aficionado, but some of my favorite affordable bourbons are Buffalo Trace, WL Weller 12yo and Elmer T Lee.

Currently though going through a cask strength Edradour 13 year old single malt. Like liquid Christmas pudding.
