I have a strong dislike for long putters.
I root against golfers who use them.
So this morning Peter Aliss of the BBC is doing guest commentary on ESPN.
When he sees Adam Scott's long putter he nores::
"I think that is the longest putter I have ever seen.
Perhaps he should just stick it up his nose and move his head"
You don't get incisive commentary like that every day.

Nice. Most long putters are called Belly Putters because they rest against your belly (obviously). I saw Adam Scott using his new putter last week and yes, it's the longest darn thing I've ever seen - I'll call it a Chin Putter.
BTW - I just got a new Odyssey DART putter - freaking awesome.
I've had two putters my entire life. I had an old Ping single blade from around 1978 until it broke (thanks Delta Airlines, hello Skypigeon) three years ago and I've got an Odyssey Backstryke now, and honestly, its the puttee and not the putter. Can't tell a difference around the green, of course I'm not putting with much money on the line either. In other words, I hate them!!

I think some of them look like branding irons.
Arnold Palmer does not like belly putters. Heard him talking about it at his tournament earlier this year, he feels no club should be in contact with the body.

I used to have a long putter. I never putted better for it, and I felt like a jack ass using it. Tried it for a couple months and then sold it to some other sucker who was about to find out that it was stupid and made you feel like an idiot.
Livin' the good life as poorly as possible.

That depends on if your definition of long putter includes belly putter. Cabrera won the 2009 Masters using a 39" belly putter, albeit using a conventional grip.
If you had putted significantly better with it, you might not have felt that way!
Personally I don't care what a putter looks like as long as it is legal. I understand that the aesthetics of the long putter isn't too good, but the USGA/R&A have had decades to eliminate them and haven't.
Folks that don't like the long putter have to be happy that Adam Scott didn't win the Masters (he came very close). I'd imagine that would have created a proliferation of the long stick on the Tour like when Vijay greatly improved his game by switching.
I was thinking about one of those that seemed to be about six foot tall. Didn't think anyone was using them.
Yeah, nobody has won a major with the really long putter although Adam Scott barely missed this year in the Masters.
Tom Lehman once said that if you are a poor putter (by PGA standards) than a long putter is the easiest way to make yourself average putter, but it is almost impossible to be a great pro putter unless you are using a conventional stick.
