    Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives

Taking a roll call of which joints featured on DDD everyone has tried.

I've been to three so far: Blue Moon Cafe in Baltimore (Captain Crunch French Toast), Di Pasquales in Baltimore (italian), and Schooner or Later in Long Beach.

Was going to try another on in D.C., but they had a fire a while ago and haven't reopened. There's a couple in SoCal I'm going to try when we are there next week.

Anyone else been to a DDD joint?
If you break a vase and then glue it back together and the vase loses it's value, you do not get credit for fixing it. You get the blame for damaging it....

They showed a rerun of the Captain Crunch French Toast this afternoon. Oh man....Captain Crunch, what a blast from the past.

I'll have to report back. They've been to a few places in Indy we want to try but we haven't made it yet. The top of the list is the Blueberry, Goat Cheese and Basil Pie with Almond Streusel at Three Sisters Cafe.

Nico's at Pier 38 in Honolulu. Great place. I have only ever had the fish n' chips there because it was so good the first time I can't manage to order anything else any time I go.

I've been to Blue Ash Chili. We've been going there for years as it's close to the house. Now you can't get a table unless you're the first ones thru
the door. That aspect kind of sucks but they did open up another location near King's Island. I haven't been to that location yet.

When I'm in California in October I hope to visit a couple of places that I saw on DDD.

Yup! They still compete with Farnham's for the "Best Fried Clams" status. I prefer Woodman's.

I was pretty much a seafood novice at the time and flying home the next morning, so I was a little conservative, along with the lobster and fried clams as I recall I really enjoyed the steamed pi$$ clams and would have liked to have loaded up more on them...

Have an old Woodsman t-shirt somewhere, must have been

Might have to make a side trip to Hodads while we're out in SoCal this week.

there's a "general store" in Lone Camp, TX on hwy 4.. they have badazzed burgers and homemade onion rings to die for, their homemade pies must be made in heaven!!!

it is kinda off the beaten path though.. like 15 miles out in the middle of no where ville, but on a great motorcycle cruising road.

Joe's in Redondo Beach, Calif. Classic diner that's never empty. It's right off of PCH. I go whenever I'm in town.

    Triple D marathon in progress...

If you Indy area types don't go try Jersey's Cafe in Carmel, IN it looks like you are missing some East Coast treats. The Wildwood Cheesesteak looked AWESOME!

The wife was eyeing that chili potato and trying to figure how we could make a detour on our way back home from our vacation...

It seems we'll be going to Zest and Jersey's Cafe in the near future.

I have a friend who was raving about Zest in May but they chose the Saffron Cafe instead that night. The Saffron (Moroccan food) was spectacular and will become a regular stop in future visits but Zest looks like it will make for a nice lunch with a short detour from the Monon Trail.

We finally made it to Three Sisters Cafe for brunch yesterday. I had the Lemon Corncakes with Fresh Seasonal Berries. On DDD they used raspberries but mine came with Blueberries. The waiter brought Lemon Curd and Blueberry sauce to pour on top and it also came with a dollop of fresh whipped cream. They were pretty yummy.

The husband ordered the "D'Nai" which was also featured on DDD. Menu describes it as "Slow-roasted fresh ham with low-country braised kale and pepper jack on a french roll. But the ham was really tender pulled pork and it was served with a jus. Tons of flavor.

Needless to say we did not have room for the Blueberry, goat cheese pie.

There were several things on the menu that looked fantastic. We'll be going back. They don't have a lot of tables so if you go, plan on having a small wait. We waited about 20 minutes. No big deal and it was definitely worth the wait.

We try to hit a DDD place whenever possible when on our motorcycle trips. I had the duck breast salad at The Iron Barley in St. Louis. Went to a couple places in Memphis, Leonard's BBQ and one other was OK but nothing special, I had a smoked sausage sandwich. Also ate at a place called Rendevouz I think was on DDD. A place north of Nashville was real good, I recall the DDD episode had Ricky Skaggs eating there, kind of middle east food, but real good. Cafe Rakka in Hendersonville.

Edit: Also been to The Pit in Raleigh which was on DDD, but it's not really a D, D or a D. Down the street from The Pit is a very good BBQ diner that SHOULD be on DDD if it wasn't already, forget the name, but very cool place the locals suggested to us. I was hoping to make it to the twin cities for a juicy Lucy but the trip never materialized. This weekend I'm heading to the southern tip of Illinois, so if anyone has a suggestion within pretty much the entire length of Illinois let me know! Not Chicago though, no fun on a motorcycle.
