    Daly 2012

It sounded like Derek said in the interview before the F1 Monza race that Conor would be back in GP3 in 2012. Did I hear that correctly? (this is a sincere question; not trying to stir the pot up) Good for him if he found the funding to run another year in Europe.

He certainly would deserve it. Really got up to speed in the later halve of the season. It shows how big a difference experience makes.

Heard a recent interview with him that they are looking towards running GP3 again or possibly moving to Formula Renault. If he could stay with Carlin and move to their World Series by Renault program it would be a mega opportunity. Wickens and Vergne are running away with that championship for Carlin.

Conor said he wanted to concentrate on the European ladder and that seems where he's going to stay.

I agree, if Conor can make the switch with Carlin to Formula Renault this would be a tremendous move the young driver. Carlin seems to have good cars everywhere but GP3 which is an oddity.

Josef Newgarden has similar results last year with a resurgence at the end of year also but unfortunately (fortunately for Indycar) wasn't called back by Carlin. I'm glad Conor is going back though. I'm glad Carlin is putting so much effort into supporting North American drivers. They had Robert Wicken's back for much of his European ladder career and I hope they can find the same success with Conor Daly.

Hitokiri... Newgarden was "called back" by Carlin... & told to bring a specific amount of $$$

Robo-Pong $$$ went MUCH further in the USA, where other sponsors also joined Team Josef

Edit: Add Gordon Kirby to my opinion...

Conor is with Lotus ART GP for the GP3 test this week. It's his second test with them.

If he catches on with them I'd expect him to challenge for the championship.

Direct line to GP2 / F1 / IndyCar through Lotus makes it an extremely attractive seat!

The 3rd GP3 Lotus ART seat could be a terrific opportunity. With such a quality ride, and all the experience he gained last year, he could be a serious championship contender. Especially since the field should be much weaker this season. Many front runners won't come back in 2012(Bottas, Calado, Melker and Williamson are already signed in other series).

I think Daly will be up there fighting for it this season (if he gets the ride). He showed a lot of improvement at the end of last season. He has quick teammates with Abt (GP3 rookie) and Vainio (who like Daly had a tough first GP3 season last year) so it will be exciting to see how it turns out.

I do hope they manage to get a few good names in the remaining seats though because 2012 looks to be a whole less competitive than 2011 as OrdinaryRaceFan mentioned.

Mitch Evans looks to be the favourite so far and I think Tio Ellinas will show his speed as well but I don't think he will be in reach of the title during his first year. One that will be interesting to watch is Robert Visoiu from Romania. He's just turned 16 but was already a race winner in Formula Abarth last year. Could be one for the future.
