Have we all forgotten Derek's friendship to Bernie? That chip will be cashed in at some point.

You clearly don't know Derek, Conor, Bernie or F1 very well.

That 'chip' has taken the form of a paddock pass for the Daly's over the last few years. Nothing more.

A big congratulations for Daly! When is the other Conor going to announce his Lites deal? Getting close to the season.

  5. #35
    From Conor's Facebook page...

It's finally official! So incredibly happy to announce I'll be driving for Lotus GP/ART GP this year in GP3. Can't believe it! Looking forward to getting down to business. Locked and loaded. -Conor Daly

Yes, it is. Lotus sponsor the team and it's been renamed from ART GP to Lotus GP to reflect this.

Great news. Hope he has a good season.

He could have done worse seeing as the ART/Lotus team do have a 100% record of GP3 championships. Probably not the cheapest seat in the series.

First day of testing at Barcelona today for the GP3 series. Daly had a new one-off team mate today in Red Bull's Carlos Sainz Jr who took Vainio's seat today (don't know why). Sainz Jr will be racing in British F3 this season.

Mitch Evans was fastest in the morning ahead of Tio Ellinas and Daly's team mate Daniel Abt. Sainz Jr was 12th with Daly 13th, about one second off Evans time.

In the afternoon session it was Abt who was quickest ahead of Laine and Ellinas. Sainz Jr was 4th with Daly 9th.

Might want to read this, should be a good read (I haven't read it yet, but Leigh knows how to write a good article): http://themotorsportarchive.com/2012...-championship/

The GP3 season kicks off this weekend in Barcelona. First practice has just been run and Conor ended up 4th.

    Top 10:
    1. Matias Laine, MW Arden
    2. David Fumanelli, MW Arden
    3. Aaro Vainio, Lotus GP
    4. Conor Daly, Lotus GP
    5. Daniel Abt, Lotus GP
    6. Mitch Evans, MW Arden
    7. Antonio Felix da Costa, Carlin
    8. Alex Brundle, Carlin
    9. Tamas Pal Kiss, Atech CRS GP
    10. Marlon Stöckinger, Status Grand Prix

Three female drivers in the series this year by the way. Not surprisingly Alice Powell was the fastest of the three in 20th, with Vicky Piria in 22nd and Carmen Jorda 23rd.

Top 11 within a second. Will probably bunch up when it's time for qualifying. Last year the top 25 was within a second, which is pretty damn close considering we're talking a Grand Prix length circuit.

This is probably Conor's best chance to show Europe and the world what he has so I think anything less then a podium for most of his finishes is a failure. Conor has been through GP3 before, he knows the cars, and now he knows the tracks. No excuses.

Didn't think of that... The irony

Da Costa seems to be a pretty talented guy, I was surprised to see him struggling so much last year.

Found out earlier today that SPEED2 is a bit of a joke. Comcast (Xfinity) is the largest cable provider & this new online channel has no business agreement with them

Anyone have a good link to watch live GP3 events???

I was surprised I couldn't get it on Comcast or my Verizon phone.
Congratulations to RHR, & all the winning drivers & teams in the fantastic 2012 season. Looking forward to 2013!

There was a Verizon logo in the line up of SPEED2 carriers... sounds like its regional if your Verizon phone could not get the coverage?

It seems you have to have Verizon cable account. Cell phone isn't good enough

Very deserved win! Puts him in second place in the championship right behind Mitch Evans. I expect the title fight to be between those two, if Evans won't just run away with it.

I hope he can keep this up and challenge for the title because I feel its going to be tight one. Isn't it amazing what a good team can do for a driver. Many were discounting Conor because he was with Carlin (which sucks in GP3) but now he's on ART Conor is showing the world what he's really made out of.

Any good driver will be good with ART. A season of experience helps a lot also. It were only the score board fans who criticized Conor last year, anyone who actually follows GP3 and Conor Daly knew he could do what he did today.

Yeah...2 years ago and with just 24 points and one single podium. What's your point?

Plus if you think 7th is good for a team such as Carlin who has a very rich history in European ladder racing then sorry Bezzen - you're extremely mistaken.

Did you watch Tom Dillman in Istanbul?

My point is that on a good day with the right drivers the Carlin cars could fight for wins. It seems to be easily forgotten/ignored.

I'm not saying they're ART, but you make it sound like they are the HRT of GP3.

They're not HRT but they're definitely not Ferrari, McLaren, or Red Bull which they should be with their experience. It's odd...Carlin seems to do well everywhere but GP3. I mean, Carlin has been in GP3 from the start - how could they not be better by now? ART always dominates or at least does very well year in and year out and Carlin isn't like that. The very fact that Conor went from zero to hero in an ART car shows that it's not the driver - it's the team IMO.

If you look at Conor's record from last year he did improve to be a regular top 5 to 10 runner towards the end of the season. That's probably where Carlin would be if they had experienced drivers (like Dean Smith was) from the start. Look at Carlin with Antonio Felix Da Costa now. If Conor would have stayed with Carlin for his second season he would for sure be fighting for a few wins with them - but probably not the championship.
