Add some chili that makes your nose run to all these other items and you gotta pretty good pig out.

Sausage racing is dominated by foreigners. You should only cheer for hot dogs.

never take for granted brats at racetrack.
I thought brats were typical race track food.
maybe I got too spoiled at RA.
But out here in California, no brats.

Hamburgers on the grill last night, leftovers for lunch today. But I won't hold your brats against you if you don't hold my hamburgers against me, but not because I have a problem with brats, its because I don't want the grease to get on me from you holding the burgers against me. :P

I never take a brat for granted. I lived in England a few years, no bratwurst to be found. I ventured to Germany and found brats but they were not as good as Wisconsin made brat.

It's ok to like Bratwurst, however, Manlaw #242 applies.
Manlaw #242 clearly states "Always bring the Bratwurst to your mouth, not your mouth to the Bratwurst"! This manlaw applies to all cylindrical shaped meat products,,, and banannas

They now make the Brat patties. Why not do a Brat patty and a burger, double cheesebuger style? Problem solved.

anyone ever have Kabelwurst? it's a veal sausage that my neighbor in SW Wisc. would boil in beer and then fry or grill- eat it with mashed taters- he would get it fresh from our local german/swiss specialty butcher in our little town of New Glarus

I've tried to buy it from stores here in the twin cities, two different brands, both times ended up giving it to the dog- couldn't even come close to the real deal- would love to find someplace here in MN that could duplicate the New Glarus kabelwurst!!

NO! Didn't you get the memo?

Brats and hamburgers is strictly an either/or deal. Don't be afraid to make a choice.

I figured it was either giardiniera or that atomic green relish they put on dogs in Chicago. I suspect not, though, if only two know it. So what is it?

It goes back to the old Forums on the Indycar site. Just something a couple people made up. Nothing real, as far as I know.

German brats are generally more finely ground, more like a natural casing frank, but still highly seasoned unlike a frankfurter, which is actually a brat... from Frankfurt. Not sure how I'd like a brat burger. A brat has to have that nice crunch and when you pierce that casing with your teeth.

Got a groupon for $30 from a Sausage shop on the south side of Chicago - might drive down there today and use it and stock up.

Also found a really insanely good sausage shop on the north side named Kurowski's - everything there is Polish and a lot of the employees only speak Polish so you have to learn the names of the sausages in Polish. Most of their sausages are cured and very strongly flavored though, so not as good for grilling in my opinion. Better with nice bread and cheese.

We have local store that makes their own brats (and other sausages) and it's recipes are originally from a German butcher who they used to employ decades ago (http://rayssuperfoods.com/). I took them, along with buns from our local bakery (http://bakerygifts.com/) with spicy brown mustard, raw onion, sauteed onion and peppers and sauerkraut to an Ohio State Wisconsin game a couple of years ago. The Wisky fans who we had the pleasure of parking with, after a little razzing, became friendly with us. I always pack way too much when I tailgate (just for times like this, it's good to make friends with the enemy!), and after sampling my cooking, declared them better than any they've had. That's not the first time that's happened by the way, but I thought that being in the heart of Bratland that was pretty impressive. They are that good!

Check out Usingers Sausage website. They are in Milwaukee and pretty famous and they ship.
P.S. the ONLY way to eat them is with saurkraut.

Usinger's brats are the best I've ever tasted, but you don't have to eat them with saurkraut (yuk!). They are very good with a little deli mustard on or off a bun.

For me it's just like you and lobster. I just run to the store and pick some up.

I'd much rather have lobster, by the way.
