Oh Crap! I saw a fortune teller years ago... she told me that the end would be near when folks started talking about the need to put KISS in the RRHOF.

Yes and while everybody talks about how far Bruce Jenner has fallen nobody talks about what a pathetic dirtbag the I am Indy guy turned out to be.

As to the HOF argument, the past several years have been absurd in terms of who is and isn't getting in. I guess Rock and Roll has a much more liberal definition these days. There are many who should be inducted, but for me KISS really leads the pack. I'm not a huge hard rock/heavy metal fan but KISS had a massive influence on those around my age (37) and those a bit older and younger. They maybe weren't the greatest musicians of all time but were hugely popular and very influential from a cultural standpoint. The number of musicians who started playing because of KISS has to be astronomical.
Agreed. I was in the high school marching band. Myself and a bandmate used to breathe fire like Gene Simmons. Our band director even let us incorporate it into the halftime show. That would be unheard of today. (and probably shouldn't have happened then)

By the way, I fell asleep before Roger Waters. I'll have to look for it on youtube today.

The Hall of Fame itself is a very cool place, but the "membership" is laughable. SRV and Rush aren't nominees, but the ******* Beastie Boys are?

Maybe the RRHoF is waiting to have an all-Canadian induction ceremony with Rush, Celine Dion, Anne Murray and Justin Bieber.

I've got nothing against Heart - I'm sure they will be in, and deservedly so.

But consider this. In the past year, both Heart and Rush have been on tour. Heart's last Denver stop: 1800 seat theatre, one night. Rush: 2 sold out nights at Red Rocks - 18,000 combined attendance.

Point of order... point of order! What is Celine Dion's connection to Rock n Roll?

  8. #38
I wish they would just rename it the Music Hall Of Fame. I don't think anyone would call The Spinners a "Rock And Roll Band". It looks to me like just about every genre outside of rock and roll is represented except classical. I have no issues with The Beastie Boys since they started out as a punk rock band and many of their records are a mix of hip-hop and heavy metal.

I couldn't believe that they actually had one of Britney Spears' outfits on display in a glass case when I went there. The fact that Bessie Smith is in but Deep Purple, KISS, and Rush are not says all you need to know. Bessie Smith died almost 20 years before Rock And Roll even came into existence.

What I'm wondering is, if Guns N' Roses makes the cut, would that be enough to get Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff, and Steve performing together on the same stage at the same time again, even if it's just the one time?

Is that Joan Jett or Robert Smith in that photo?

Strangely, you never see the two of them together in a photo. Sorta like Superman and Clark Kent.

I like that the hall of fame recognizes the roots and influences that came before "Rock & Roll" as we know it.

I've never seen the Beastie Boys ad anything more than a novelty act.

Rush has always been one if the most musically interesting bands around. They appeal to the intellect more than the hormones.

But the fact that SRV is not yet in the hall of fame makes me think whoever picks the nominees doesn't know a single f***ing thing about music.

Linda Ronstadt owned the early to mid 70's like no woman in rock since, sold out arenas and doesn't even get mentioned for not being considered...

(posted to encourage someone to post a hot photo of her circa '73, hint, hint)

I was just looking at the list of artists, and it does seem that "prog rock" is woefully under represented. Yes, ELP, Rush, Jethro Tull, King Crimson - you'd think at least one of them would be recognized. Genesis is in the HOF, but one has to wonder if that's primarily a result of the massive hits of the '80s.

There was a pretty well known magazine investigation about the RRHOF a while back (can't remember the magazine. Vanity Fair maybe?) that revealed membership is as much about the televised ceremony--and the awareness it creates for the museum--as it is about fairly giving an artist their due.

Specifically, there was an on-the-record account of how the head of the nominating committee nixed Traffic's induction their 1st year of eligibility (even though they had more votes) in favor some other group with lesser votes, but who represented a different demographic that the other inductees didn't appeal to, and promised to reunite for the ceremony if they were chosen. (BTW--Traffic did eventually get inducted in a subsequent year).

Also obvious--Ozzy Osborne and Black Sabbath ignored for years until Ozzy suddenly becomes a big reality TV star, and so he's inducted after prodding from VHI.

I disagree. It is a Hall of Fame, not a list of the most influential or innovative. Just like other halls of fame,(such as the various sports ones) there should be any number of criteria meriting induction. I missed another band in the genre: REO Speedwagon. While these four bands didn't break much new ground, they produced lots of good music that was purchased by lots of people.

Wouldn't have a problem with Linda getting in.

I've said it before SF, Journey was one of the tightest bands I've ever heard. Talked to a concert security guy one time that said the same thing. Tragic how 'success' is tied to 'terrible', huh?

Anybody who badmouths Journey obviously was never in a situation where they could put their music to its proper use.

I see you point, but there are a lot of good bands that put out good music, but that doesn't make them HoF material IMO. It's like a solid journeyman receiver. Good player, the guy you know will put up decent numbers but not a superstar. Same deal with Journey, REO, Styx and Foreigner. Good bands put some decent albums together, did a lot of drugs, but didn't have that extra something to warrant being in the HoF. YMMV.

I found an email address for RRHoF:

I'm going to email them and let them know what a bunch of worthless wankers they are. Feel free to join in the fun!

Not surprised they didn't include Cheap Trick. Or Rush. Or Kiss. Or Roxy Music. The RRHoF is just one big fluckin' **** stain. Kudos to Heart though.

Would be fantastic but my guess is Axl's ego/reclusiveness/paranioa/arseholeness wouldn't allow it. If it does happen, hopefully the audience isn't made to wait for hours before Axl takes the stage.

I always thought that the downfall of the RnRHoF would come once bands from the early 80's become eligible. It is no longer the 'Rock and Roll' HoF. It's simply the 'music' HoF. And over the past few years they've really stretched the 'fame' part IMO.

By openly and willingly ignoring talented bands/musicians/songwriters etc that had and/or continue to have an impact on rock music is a travesty IMO.

    Joke is putting it lightly.
