Might be one of the updates to the car. Not sure if they'd worry about doing the updates on the engine test chassis. I'm sure some people will see it as the most nefarious thing they've ever seen.

I meant that this car might have updates that the Lotus test car doesn't have. Looks like the Andretti car has big mirrors too.

Here's a shot of the KV car with the "big" mirrors too. http://yfrog.com/khwqfujj

Still waiting on someone to suggest that the big mirror contains some sort of active suspension system or traction control which will allow Penske to win.

A-MEN!!! Same here. New cars at least. Just ordered another.

I agree they should use the yellow instead of the metallic gold.

Last 2 years....Dario 2 Championships, Power 0 Think they really care what the paint looks like?
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security

Nice... "however" am I the only one? Doesn't it look to you like the drivers head is actually MORE exposed in the new car!?

Other than the height (I realize John is vertically challenged) it just seems like there is even less side protection if the car gets on its side or it hit from the side by another car. The side pods on the 03-11 Dallara curve upward and are wide at the cockpit while on the DW12 is only wide in the back of the car and scoop in at the cockpit. I know the undertray will be protection and maybe they discovered the less debris crushing around a driver's head is better (ie Senna)?

Not trying to OT the thread, it's just the first thing I notice now after Dan's crash...

The slow motion zoomed in angle of Dan's crash showed he hit the post and fence while going backwards....the design around the front of the cockpit wouldn't have made any difference IMO....where the worry I think should come in, is the situation that PT was in.
2012 Races.....St.Pete....Indianapolis.....and The MILE!!! THE MILE!!! THE MILWAUKEE MILE!!!!!!
    2013 Races.....Indianapolis (Men's Wedding Party Weekend) and Indyfest 2013!!!

no, he did not hit the post going backwards.

And the investigation report said "the bottom of Wheldon's helmet had impacted the pole near his chin"

The current car is safer by being less prone to wheel hoping and becoming airborne, if the 2012 car goes into the catchfence the same way Dan did the results will be the same.

This is one thing I really like about the DW12. The angled sidepods make the sponsor visible from a front camera angle. Just wish something was done about the "sponsor blocker".

Why did these wings work so well in 1990's on the ovals but we need 747 wings and dozens of other winglets all over the place in 2012?

I like the smaller wings but didn't that era also have larger wings for the street and road circuits? It would be nice to compare apples to apples if someone has pictures.
