If they pull this off, I will be there. Texas GP will be crossed off my list. Jersey ambience wins every time. Sorry West Texas, but I'd rather have an Italian Hot Dog .
Man, haven't had a good artery cloggin deep fried dog in a while. We had a guy in my town that used to make them, probably tok a few years off my life too. Seems very few appreciated the culinary delight that is the fried dog.

Suprizingly, Five guys makes a damn good texas tommie.(slice that dog, stuff it with cheese, wrap it on bacon and deep fry. oooooh mama!)

What were we talking about again???

I'd love to see F1 guys like Raikkonen, Hakkinen and Kovalainen on a local dirt track in a 410 sprint. They're probably the only guys on the grid with a similar type of racing background and large enough tackle to even consider it.

I have friends in many places, but none realistically near any present F1 tracks aside from Interlagos. And as cool as it might be to stay with them, that's a helluva ride south. Meanwhile, I do have friends who live in Lower Manhattan, and I do know how to use mass transit in the area and ride the PATH across to Hoboken. Is $360 a lot of money for a race? Maybe. But if the cost to me is parking my car and staying with friends, I'll do that any day to see a Formula 1 race.

Here's hoping they drive by the Qwick Stop and RTF Video with Jay and Silent Bob selling dime bags out front. Hell, Dante may be working the Qwick Stop, but he probably isn't even supposed to be there that day.*

    * If you get this reference, you're automatically in my cool book.

Here's a new circuit map, as I thought, there are all these residential, extremely expensive town houses down on the waterfront. How are those people supposed to get in and out? The ferry will basically be closed for a week or so, thousands of people use that to get to work.

    Wanker!

On googlemaps, the streets those houses are on go both ways. The road that the track incorporates is only one end of those streets.

The question should be what will those people think of the noise. I remember the race here in DC in the RFK parking lot. Parts of that track were right across the street from residential housing. And the sound from the ALMS cars and the support series didn't even come close to an F1 engine at full song.

I would hope that the organizers have already taken that into consideration. Since the local Mayor was at the presentation, I would hope that issue would have already been addressed.

If I had a house there and were not a race fan, I'd plan a very nice expensive vacation in June and finance it by renting out the house to race fans. (Of course with a very healthy damage deposit.)

Whoops Griz, I just "blew up" your map and see that those red buildings by the river are labled "Residential", which they are. I'm sure that they have some way of getting in and out, but that is AWFUL close to the track.

Someone drove around the proposed circuit.

I guess they can have busses and the light rail that runs about 2000 ft from the track drop people off?

I wonder if those are still open. I went to those twice back in the late 90s. The guy working at the video store was super cool and gave me blank receipts that had the video store logo on them for a keepsake. He actually reminded me a lot of the Randal character from the movie. We also visited the record store and the diner from Chasing Amy.

On a side note, I was a volunteer at one of the Horror Hound conventions back about 2 years ago. I was lucky enough to be Jason Mewes' driver for the weekend. I remember on the Saturday night of that weekend he wanted to go to Wal-Mart, so I took him to the closest one to the convention which was the one on East Washington Street here in Indy. I'm not sure if he was playing it up because he knew I was a fan, but he was very much the same guy he plays in the Kevin Smith movies. He grabbed one of the shopping carts in the parking lot and proceeded to race around the lot as if it were a skateboard. On the way back he wanted to stop at White Castle and ended up buying about $25 worth of food.

How about they run at Watkins Glen and just green screen the NYC skyline in the background instead ?

Any of the F1 drivers with Rallying experience would pick it up in a few laps I bet

The transcripts I read said the promoter will pay for a vacation for any of the residents that doesn't want to be in the area for the weekend.

The proposed track looks pretty good for a lot of the distance, but with all the residential area around some of it, I have my doubts if this race will run here more than once, if at all.

Hey, if the race is deemed a success (aside from the grousing of the residents), maybe it can be run in a different place in the NYC metro area. Grand Prix of Brooklyn? Queens? Harlem?

CAn you imagine how loud that is going to be?? topside the sound is just free, and down on the bottom, it's going to be echoing off that cliff and hillside. :'

I suspect F1's requirement of permanent pit facilities may hamper that. i wonder where they will place the Emperor's suite. You know BE won't be skipping this race.

How about just follow the Marathon course. 8 laps of NYC.... Who needs walls and stuff?

I don't think so, Bernie seems to be very interested in a GP in Canada as well. Plus the Canadian GP is the one which annually has most TV viewers worldwide (95m)

It's a huge money saver for F1's circus, not having to move everything back to Europe for another race, only has to be driven south 7 hours, unlike Austin, which is basically a standalone trip, unless a Mexican GP is in the works?

Doesn't really compare to Singapore's stunning views does it. Manhattan skyline isn't really featured from the on track view,eh

A few points from somebody who lives about 2 miles down-river.

    1. I am SO THERE.

    2. Snooki et al, are NOT FROM NEW JERSEY!! They're from NY. Talk to anybody from South Jersey and you'll get an earful about how annoying the summer renters from Staten Island are.

    3. There's access from the Ferry as well as light rail which connects with NJ transit and the PATH, so transportation in and out shouldn't be too much of a problem. Especially when you consider that both the ferry terminal and light rail station are within the race course itself.

    4. The road going down the Palisades is fun to drive at the speed limit in your typical grocery getter, the F1 drivers are going to love it.

    5. You can't ask for better views of Midtown Manhattan than from JFK drive in Weehawken. I'm surprised there aren't more accidents from people distracted by it. Go past that park enough and you're guaranteed to see somebody getting their wedding pictures taken at least once a week.

    6. Almost all of the track goes through residential areas, some of which are very high density (NJ is the most densely populated state). If they do this more than once, I'll be amazed.

    7. NJ isn't just Italians, the area is home to a large and growing Indian population, as well as having a lot of Cuban (2nd most behind Florida), Indian, Korean, Puerto Rican, Filipino, and Japanese residents. You will not want for a diverse selection of food here. As for diners, the Riverside is pretty good and right down the street, but you can't beat the Tick-Tock in Clifton or the Nevada in Bloomfield.

    8. The most famous person from the area that I can think of off the top of my head is Anthony Bourdain. Unless they can resurrect Frank Sinatra he's the current front-runner for grand marshal, but I will campaign for the Toxic Avenger.
It's impossible, that's sure. So let's start working.- Phillipe Petit

Talent borrows, Genius steals. - Pablo Picasso

Ah, there's nothing more exciting than science. You get all the fun of sitting still, being quiet, writing down numbers, paying attention... Science has it all.

Thanks for all of the info. As for number 6. above, I have to agree with your skepticism of this being a more-than-once event. On the other hand, do you know of any other places along the Hudson that might be suitable for the continuation of Formula One?

Thanks - that was very insightful. Hope we can share a beer trackside in June 2013 .

    I'm still enjoying:

Are you freakin' serious THREE bloody seconds in TWO spots ??? Singapore looks amazing from every angle (on track or off) Very modern... nobody is racing by brownstones or three story storefronts.

You are obviously a NJ guy, so you will get a kick out of F1 cars racing on street you've personally driven on over the years. I can relate... the USGP was once held in my hometown streets (& at the time the USA's 6th largest city,Detroit from 1982-1988). That layout featured sky scrapers & a Monaco style tunnel, but after some of the tracks that F1 has created over the last few years... Detroit or Weehawken don't really rate.

Montreal is one of my favorite N/A cities... that will continue to be my unofficial east coast "USGP"

Yeah...they use 'em both really well in Singapore to deliver the stunning views

The panning cameras +helicopters won't hide the non de script 1950's era, low rise structures. I don't know... maybe the high walls will block them out & cameras will capture the treeline. It will look like any other high speed track (like Monza or Hockenheim)?
