Lost in the Aftermath of Las Vegas

Lost in the shock of Wheldon's death and the fallout of the next couple of weeks is that a lot of 2012 chassis have been ordered by teams, and testing has resumed. Silly season is underway, and there are some seriously good drivers who could end up in new seats. Some single-car teams are looking at second cars.

Yeah, I know this happens every season around this time, but a guy can hope, right? Wouldn't it be a kick in the teeth for the haters if there were 25+ cars at St. Pete?

I honestly don't think the car counts will be that far down from last year. I'm thinking it'll be a pretty healthy field, all in all.

It'll be interesting to see who ends up on the sidepods of some of these cars. I'd like to start seeing a few more national brands, but at this point, I'll take whatever I can get.

Very true. I remember thinking about sponsors during the 2009 500, when Alex Lloyd was sponsored by HER Energy in the pink car. Everyone wants a Quaker State or Target-type sponsorship, but if a Geriatric Fish Oil Suppositories Presented By Wilford Brimley sponsorship was the only way I could go racing, I'd be the best damned Geriatric Fish Oil Suppository spokesperson the world had ever seen.

Hey, if Tampax wants to sponsor my IndyCar team, I'll totally be on the grid at St. Pete!

I've been very happy with car counts since unification. Watching two rival series struggling to get 18 cars on the grid sucked. I'm confident we will continue to see excellent car counts in 2012 with more growth in the up comming years

Lost in the Aftermath of Las Vegas

Much was lost in the Aftermath of Las Vegas.

Thanks the resiliance of men and their dreams this disaster will insure that through dedication to the sport Indycar can only get stronger.
We are seeing a somewhat different language at some points than in preseasons before.
Is it the new car, new manufacturers, big names from Europe, apparent better sponsor support or just men making it come together?

At the very least the upcoming season promises to show us a variety of changes up front and throughout the field in both drivers and equipment.

Lets just hope the racing is fast, safe and exciting for the widest range of fans.
I believe the changes we see coming, including rule changes, will be very instrumental in promoting an upswing in the series media and fan appeal.

Good luck to all and to all a great season!

So who would have to pull the strings to get that sponsorship?
More Ovals and Road Courses. Less Street Races.
