How many Champions wil be reupping their membership for 2012?

Will you be reupping or joining the Champion membership for 2012?

I would like to mention again my idea for a guest or trial Champion membership, for Champion members' guest coming to the race. For me, I bring a different friend every year as my guest in the hopes of getting them hooked on Indycar racing (in the past this has proven to work, and I have convinced many friends to fall in love with Indycars). But, I can't expect them to join for a full year of a fan club, when they aren't even sure they'll like Indycar, just so they can get into the things that I as a full member can get access to. But, a $5 guest membership that is only good the week of the Toronto race, where they get the full advantages of a Champion Membership, that would make sense to them.

Every person I have convinced to get a champions membership thought it was well worth the money for the perks and info offered for the races.

Hell, the subscription to Racer costs more than the membership.

Did you ever get your subscription to Racer yet? I heard about it, but not a single issue here yet. I agree the subscription alone is more then the membership.

Probably not. Don't need a new hat next year. The ability to buy a Championship Celebration ticket was eventually advertised as one of the perks, but in the end, those were available to anyone who would spend the cash for it.

I haven't gotten a single issue of Racer magazine yet. I forgot about it until I read this thread. Hmm.. I will have to check on that I guess. But yeah, I will renew my membership.

My wife and I joined as Champions at Las Vegas. We get the benefit of the whole next season before we re-up and if the IICS schedule the last race at Las Vegas it will be a no-brainer. If the schedules takes a turn for the worse (In our Opinion), we won't. So it's really in the hands of IndyCar at this point.

Still haven't received a single issue of "Racer", either.

That's kinda the way we feel. It is going to be up to the IICS, otherwise there are really few benefits that we are interested in for people who don't attend races.

No Racer Mag here either - It seems the emphasis is now on being "non-Indy centric" and the loss of races in the mid-west make it seem like there is still no reason to change my mind. It seems to me there needs to be an "IMS FAN CLUB" that really serves the people who care and can support the only place where IndyCar racing can be enjoyed. No points for attending, not points for watching, no points for fantasy racing, ---- no points for listening, no point in continuing as I see it now - too bad.

I had a friend with me on Fast Friday who did not know who was in what car and stopped by the "Nation" by the Pagoda to get the sheet - they were not handing them out until Pole Day - I knew then it did not really seem to be for the "fans" as Downforce had been. Sorry to be negative - but I have not found any reason to belong to champion.

I re-upped but am hoping the items one tries to earn do not go as fast as last year. Lot of money to pay to get shut out all the time. Will reassess the value of this after this year.

Got mine today, as my Dad and brother did as well. Well worth re-upping your Champion's membership!

I am. Hope to get to do some more fun stuff this year.
I got a Racer Mag over Christmas break.

I'm back in 2012. I'm lucky enough to be attending at least 3 races this year, so it pays for itself for me. Adding in Racer Magazine only makes it more of a good purchase. I think there are a number of things that would influence me negatively, were I not in the situation I'm in. If I couldn't attend any races, the value would definitely be lower. If I had to purchase individual memberships for a large family, particularly if we couldn't attend many races, that would be a problem. If I typically couldn't be around a computer when the give-away items are claimed, that's an issue. If I weren't set up to be able to see race control on my computer, while also being able to view a television, that would lessen the value (particularly if I couldn't attend races); too much getting up and sitting down (while possibly missing something) just to check race control means I wouldn't use it much except for IndyLights. Luckily, I don't fall in any of those columns, but I can sure see how they would be a problem for others. Value is all in where you stand and what you use. Doesn't make sense for everyone to join, but it makes sense for me.

Lifetime member...grandfathered in from the original IRL Crew.
My first Indy 500 was 1973, haven't missed one since 1981. To date I have attended 35 Indy 500's, and probably 100 or so other IndyCar races (CART & IRL).

Just do it on line - I made the mistake of stopping by the office as I had with Chase before as was read the "riot act" about never coming to the door again and do the contact on the computer only. My positive experiences with Downforce was nullified. Maybe "she" was just having a bad day but I understood the "Nation" was not the same as the year before in more than just name. I gave a second thought to re-upping in a "moment of weakness" between Christmas and New Years and found that I had expired on December 1, 2011 and was ineligible for the 2012 fan pack that was to be sent out. Downforce was always good until 12/31 yearly.

Hang on...those of us who decide to renew (I'm really, really on the fence) don't get the 2012 goodie box? Not that I really need that much of what's in it but I could give the cap to one of my nephews, etc. Since I don't live in an IndyCar market most of their "experiences" are of very little benefit to me.

In regards to the 2012 membership kit, I emailed ICN and was notified that all returning 2011 Champions will receive the 2012 kit. Don't know if that matters to many or not but I wanted to pass it along in the interest of full disclosure.

I wonder if that means us Canadians get left out again, and have to go out of our way to get the membership kits. Fortunately, I went to the Indy 500 last year and was able to pick it up there (as they were not being mailed to Canada), but what a gong show getting it. Hoping they get mailed this year as I am unable to hit Indy or Toronto.

However I did get the racer magazine sub which is great, things are looking up.

Racer magazine clinched it for me.
