    Star MazdaPresented By Goodyear?

I'm probably late to the party but while reading an Indycar.com article I noticed that it read "Star Mazda Presented by Goodyear". How long as this sponsorship title been there? Am I just blind or is this new? Does this point to Goodyear maybe taking part of American open wheel? I thought Firestone made tires for all the series from the Road to Indy to Indycars.

Goodyear has been the tire supplier to Star Mazda since before it was a part of the Road to Indy. Why they feel that this is a worthy endeavor for them, I have no idea.

Cooper is the spec tire manufacturer for USF2000.

I've been typing "the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear" in various documents for years. Goodyear has been the tire there for as long as I can remember.

It seems so out of place for Goodyear since they haven't been in open wheel for a long time. It would be ideal if there was a consistent tire supplier for the entire ladder system.

I wonder how the new Atlantic Series will effect Star Mazda http://eformulacarnews.com/news_info...97515af29e1a5b

GoodYear needs to harden the compound and let these guys race and not putter around saving tires.
The Atlantic series will have nil effect on the Star Mazda Series.

I don't know that one tire brand across the entire ladder system is all that important. First of all the cars at each level are so different, so are their tire sizes, compounds and durability. I also don't see one tire maker stepping up to provide tires across the board.

I agree with GTRacer; I don't see this Atlantic Championship having much of an effect on Star Mazda. It is a three-race series mainly for SCCA Formula Atlantic cars, which are generally an older spec. I don't know how many of the last Swift/Mazda Atlantic car are out in the wild at this point.

It would be great if Mazda got behind it like they did when it was under CART! It makes sense, with Mazda in F2000 and Star Mazda. They clearly aren't doing anything with Indy Lights (yet?).

There was something very cool about Atlantic cars.

The new series is basically a semi-pro thing. It may grow from there, but that's all it is for now.

I agree, but I assume that most of the cars running SCCA Atlantics are Toyota powered. Didn't someone buy up most if not all of the Swift/Mazdas?

Why would it be "great" to have Mazda taking sponsorship $$$ outside the Road to Indy ladder?
