    Long Beach Hotel???

My wife and I are going to the LBGP for the first time since 1976. Where is a good hotel that is really nice and a good location? Any recommendations will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Glenn

Literally across the street from the main entrance, there is the westin. Thats IMO the best choice. Just a couple blocks away there is the Marriott which is also great, and a best western across from it. The vagabond inn is just a block from the hairpin too. There are bars, restaurants all around you at any of those. There is even the passport busses that provide free transportation around downtown.

The closer you stay to the track, the more expensive the hotels get. If you want to save some money and don't mind hopping on a bus for 10minutes there are a few more options.

    Hope that was helpfull!

Stayed at Avia last year and it was incredible. The rate was very reasonable, front entrance basically on the track. Next to paying for a room at the Hyatt, you can't find a better location in relation to the track. They put on a pretty good rooftop presentation also. Probably my choice again this year.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm a little late, most of the nice hotels are already full close to the track. I went ahead and made reservations for the Vagabond Inn near the hairpin. I can walk to my seats from there, should save on some cab rides.

I stayed several times at the Vagabond Inn... and its ok for a Grand Prix weekend, because I was only there to close my eyes ;-)

Anywhere the white van is would be the place to stay. Usually it is at the Pine Ave. side of the Hyatt parking lot overlooking the track.

FYI, what seems to be sold out now won't be throughout the next few months. They seem to open blocks of rooms at a time. Happens every year. Just keep checking.

Ramada Inn in nearby Torrance isn't bad either. I made my reservations at Vagabond since I was going to fly into LAX. Decided to drive to Long Beach since the taxi drive from LAX to Long Beach is more expensive than a car rental. I've been trying to make reservations for the downtown area for months and they've all been booked. Well, one could get a hotel for $250 and that's questionable. Torrance and Seal Beach are your best bet if you don't mind driving 5 to 6 miles.

I've found that also, the rooms aren't actually sold out. We always booked directly around Feb/March at the Renaissance on East Ocean, literally a few steps from a track entrance, & if your lucky & get a good room at the front, you can get a glimpse of part of the track.

The Hotel is stupidly expensive during race week in comparison to the weeks either side, exploitation at its finest.. but the fun of the Long Beach event is always worth your wallet feeling a little queezy for a while

I am also looking to go for the first time.

How is the public transportation? Hotels around the Long Beach Airport (looks like 5-6 miles away) are less than half price of those immediately around the track. What kind of price is it for a bus ride from the airport area to the track?

Taxi from LB airport is about $25 one way. Not sure of the bus route, how many transfers, if any. The light rail (blue line) goes from downtown LA to about 1 block from the track...but that takes you through Compton and Watts. Good luck with that!

Rent a car at Enterprise or Dollar. I'm flying in to LAX instead of Long Beach Airport. Forget about the shuttle and taxis, gas is around $5.00 a gallon now. Probably will be the same for race weekend.
