This should be an easy one for some of the locals.

One thing I liked in the arena from years ago, watching a game on TV, the camera position was way down low, and the perspective was totally different than a typical basketball game on TV like you were at courtside.

    Why did it change?

It changed after RMK left. The camera switched sides of the court, and moved up higher, closer to the spot is at most venues.

I absolutely LOVED the old camera locations, one more reason the Hoosiers were the best games on tv.

the cynic in me says camera placement = advertising that is now everywhere on court..

The move of the camera happened when RMK was still around. I've heard reasons listed before, but can't quickly remember the specifics.

The weird thing is Watford hit the winning shot against UK just a few feet to the left of where Edwards hit the above shot. But as you mention they moved the camera to the opposite side so it appeared to be on the other end on TV.

Me too, but in Rabby's defense he has been tweeting follow-ups saying that Watford was back to 50% and then most likely to stay.

Interesting rumor: I heard that Elston might take his degree and transfer. While it would help the scholarship situation I would hate to see Elston go anywhere else.

On a side note, my boy Jonny Marlin has left IPFW and will apparently walk on at IU. He will have to sit out next season and will certainly struggle for playing time but I predict he will become a fan favorite.

Great kid. Hope it works out.

There's been rumors around town that Elston might transfer since his Freshman year.

But now that he has his degree he can transfer and not miss a year *I THINK*. I don't honestly know the transfer rules but that's what I heard elsewhere.

I presume they are the same for basketball as they are in football and that is how it works there. UW has back to back QB transfers who didn't have to wait to play because of having their degrees.

I've said it before, but I like that rule. Gives some benefit to an actual student athlete who manages to graduate with eligibility left.

According to this interview, Elston will still be around IU next season.

Indiana basketball: Ron Patterson forced to transfer after failing to meeting academic standards

Bummer! But, it's nice to know that Indiana is following the rules.

Guess this answers the question about getting to 13 scholarship players by the start of the term.
    It's a Hoosier thing, you wouldn't understand...

I'm a huge IU fan commenting - the fact that this is happening a few days before school starts, coupled with the fact that they are oversigned by 1 certainly doesn't create very good PR. From my understanding Ron was fully qualified from NCAA standpoint but did poorly this summer when he enrolled early at IU. I'm Trusting Tom Crean was somewhat anticipating this happening, but I would be very curious which scholarship player would have left had Ron not transferred.

I guess its the sign of the times and scholarships are technically year by year but not sure I will ever get comfortable with a team (especially IU) being oversigned by one player a week before school starts. Not much time for those affected to make alternative arrangements.

Those on the inside have known about Patterson's ineligibility for weeks.

I'm still curious to see if they can find a way to get Roth on the roster.

As to over-signing...I'm not real comfortable with it either but what are you supposed to do when a guaranteed lottery pick decides to return? In a day when you have to get recruits committed years before they graduate what exactly is a coach supposed to do?

The silver lining I suppose is that any recruit IU gets will be welcomed by most other schools. It's not like IU is their only chance at a free education.

He should have no problems... Tennessee was on his short list along with U of Miami before he picked I.U.

Both good schools given that academics are an issue...

I've read more on the issue since I've posted and it seems Ron was placed in a very specific early enrollment program for students who are borderline (same is done for some music students from what I've read). It seems he did poorly and a decision was reached today by an advisory board. Dakick said a few weeks ago that one player would be ineligible so there must have been early knowledge.

With respect to Ron it seems they did all they could, but just curious what would have happened if they let him enroll this Fall. My best guess is one of the players would have paid their own way.

I really wanted to see Roth come back as well, especially not knowing how healthy Mo Creek is. I think he is welcome back but would have to pay his own way. I don't believe he would count toward scholly numbers even if he had academic scholarship. Last I heard he wasn't training with the team any longer since the last game, but I haven't been fully up to speed. He would be a huge get for nearly any program in search of 3 point marksman.

Did anybody else pay the $6 to watch the stream of Hoosier Hysteria yesterday? Hollowell looks really good. Too bad Hanner was in a boot. That didn't leave much competition for Dipo in the dunk contest. I generally think dunk contests are pretty boring since everything has already been done, but watching Victor jump over 5-6 (?) people was pretty cool. It was definitely better than Blake Griffin barely jumping over the front bumper of a Kia, and that got all sorts of accolades.

I can't seem to find a video from the tv crew perspective, but here's one from the stands:

I didn't watch it but I did see that my boy Jonny Marlin made it to the finals of the 3-point competition where he lost to the Big Handsome.

The Big Handsome... who has been tagged with that? (Oh wait, I know who won that)

But yeah, it's been a couple years since I was ever concerned when the center wanted to pull up behind the three point line and let`r' rip.
