On most nights it's a fun team to watch. They are nowhere near championship caliber but they are much better than they were last season.
BTW, it doesn't help attendance that all games are televised.

Definitely not a championship contender yet but they have a ton of cap space and a roster of talented young players. If they can draft, sign or somehow acquire one more consistent scorer they could be a fantastic team.

Virtually every NBA game is aired at least in the teams' local markets. The Pacers are still last in attendance.

Pacers picked up Barbosa from Toronto for next to nothing. Nice pick up IMO.
Indiana is in one of the smallest markets in the NBA. Not an excuse just a fact. Having all games on local TV is a good reason why the attendance is low. It's easy to stay at home and watch the games even for the most rabid fans.

Again, ALL teams televise most or all of their games, so that's not a variable by which to compare teams. Games are on TV in all of those markets, but fans are still attending the games.
One legitimate reason why Pacers attendance has suffered: they've had a LOT of mid-week games, and only a few weekend games. (The sold-out season opener was on a Monday, but it was during a long holiday weekend for most.)
MON-THU (minus opener): 12,074 average attendance in 11 games
FRI-SUN (plus MON opener): 15,393 average attendance in 7 games
The weekday average was helped by a sellout (18,165) against Miami.

I love the fact that all the games are televised. It doesn't keep me from attending games. I would love to be one of those with season tickets, I by far love attending games over watching them on television. But let's be real...for a working-stiff like me, trying to attend 41 home games in a regular season is asking a lot.
My first Indy 500 was 1973, haven't missed one since 1981. To date I have attended 35 Indy 500's, and probably 100 or so other IndyCar races (CART & IRL).
The Pacers have passed the Nets for 29th place out of 30 in home attendance.
The Miami game tonight will help, but then the Wizards come to town Thursday, so it might be a wash.
Didn't get to see it, but big win for the Pacers against the Heat tonight.
I know it's a Monday, but they shouldn't have been about 1,000 short of a sellout against Miami.
I was fortunate to be the guest of a good friend for the Clippers game last week. There were definitely a lot of empty seats. Hopefully they can keep the turnaround going.

They need two things. They need to win and they need some names.
They've just recently started winning. If they keep that up for a few years, then people may start to come back. Why do they expect that to happen overnight?
Second, yes they have some good players, but they don't have any names. And frankly I blame the NBA. They've made this into a "Star" league instead of a team league. I see as many kids in LeBron jerseys and Kobe jerseys at every game as I do Pacer jerseys. THIS is the result of that. You reap what you sow.
Best part of the game was when Roy rejected LeBron coming down the lane in the 3rd quarter.

It's local to many of us in this thread. The team might not survive if attendance doesn't pick up.

That's nothing new. It's been that way as long as I can remember. I can remember when I was in elementary school lots of kids had Dr. J basketballs and t-shirts. In the early 90s, it seemed like there was as many kids with Shaq jerseys as any Pacer players.
What's wrong with having stars anyway? It sounds to me like sour grapes because none of the big names want to live here.
I've always hated the focus on individual stars in sports, and that includes focusing on Peyton Manning over the entire Colts team. So I agree with crispy's gist, but not your assessment of sour grapes.
I use to feel that way... until last season when it seemed pretty clear that Peyton was the entire team.j/k Ren it's a joke
Seriously though I don't remember it being much of a problem when everybody in Indy was wearing Reggie Miller's jersey.
In the Pacers' second heydey in the late 1990s (the first was in the ABA days), Miller was certainly the star of the team. But there seemed to be a lot of local love for Smits, the Davis boys, Mullin, and others. Miller was great to have, but he wasn't so elevated above his teammates like some of the stars today.
The very nature of the pro game and its marketing has evolved to showcase the stars. Personally, I kind of enjoy the new Pacers team because they don't have a star or even a wanne-star/primadonna, bucking the current trend in the league. They have a pretty cohesive, team-oriented style.
Anyway, I do predict that average attendance will grow now that local high-school and college basketball has concluded for the season. The Pacers will have April pretty much to themselves. Even the first half of May, if they are still playing, is free of competition from IMS these days.

And if it's true that Dwight Howard will not be playing for Orlando then that is a good thing for the Pacers because he gives them fits.
