    Manning and changing my mind

I am beggining to think the Colts might find a way to keep Peyton a Colt. Had a friend and big fan tell me yesterday that he would love to see the Colts trade their # 1 draft pick to Cleveland for McCoy as Manning's backup and some good players.....

It would take some some stones to make that choice.. but I don't think Peyton wants to leave and Irsay can't seem to let him go...

It does sound like his arm is getting more life in it... if he can play, be as safe as any other position, I would love to see him as a Colt... just sayin

I agree...........but ubfortunatly iwe will see if it comes down to Irsay"s heart or the new GM and coach wanting some good defensive players.........

I would keep him and trade that #1 pick for some good defensive players and build the defense all the while looking for the next qb. Manning prolly has 3-4 years left of being able to get them in the playoffs so this seems to be a decent answer to me.....remember.....Ryan Leaf and Jeff George were the next coming of YA Tittle at one time.............

No change in my mind in the last couple weeks (although I did allow myself to be talked into a more pessimistic scenario further back than that). I still think this is the most likely path:

1.) Colts cut Manning (99% chance)
2.) Colts offer Manning a new contract (95%)
3.) Manning agrees to a new contract with the Colts (60%)
    4.) Colts draft Luck (95%)
5.) Manning is the starting QB in September, assuming that he doesn't suffer a new injury or re-injury (80%, also assuming that #3 has already happened)
6.) Lots of people who were very certain Manning would never play again and 100% certain he would never play for the Colts again will pretend that they weren't really that certain about those things (99%)
    Cancer sucks.

I'm with you on that. I know we need to build the defense, but Luck has the potential to be great, thus its just to hard to pass up. With him being a Peyton fan/student, he'd be willing to learn every last bit of instruction that Peyton would be willing to share.

Also, I'm not confident that Peyton won't be back under the knife in the near future.

I would be very much surprised to see Peyton still a Colt going into next season. No way you should pass on Oliver Luck and you might get some good value in trading Manning to a team in desperate need of a quality quarterback. (Jerry Jones, are you listening?) Ernest

Luck just ran a 4.59 40....pretty damn good.

I agree with TD, they would be crazy to trade Luck. Still too iffy on what Peyton's recovery will be like, and I don't see that changing a whole lot before draft day.

Unless there is no way you release Manning.... IF Manning can play and I am the mavrick that Irsay is I might trade down and get Colt McCoy, I might make that trade.

But in the end, you are probably right.

They won't trade Manning, he will either be a Colt of given his outfight release.. just the way things are structured.

Wish I could, doggy. I'll be headed toward Indian Shores in about a month or so. Will you still be down there?

The path of least resistance for the Colts is to draft Andrew Luck and try to renegotiate a performance laden contract with Manning.

If you are Peyton Manning, do you really want to be in Indianapolis? Tom Moore, the only offensive coordinator he has ever worked with as a pro is gone. New offensive coordinator Bruce Arians was Manning's first quarterback coach in the pros, but that was a long time ago. Sure the bulk of NFL rosters turn over every three to four years, but you have to have a core to build around. The Colts don't have that core so they aren't a year or two away from winning the Super Bowl.

What makes anyone think Manning is going to willing mentor another Qb. Do people thinK there was great mentoring done between Montana to Young or Favre to Rodgers?

    My prediction:

    Manning's goes elsewhere. Maybe Jets.
    Colts draft Luck.

Things about Manning have been relatively quiet except for the tit for tat a week ago where it looks like the Manning side asked Wienke to testify about his fusion and the Colts side leaking the 4th procedure news.

What is really strange is that someone in the press got around to reading the new CBA as everyone cannot understand why the new coach and GM has not seen Peyton throw. Per the rules, they cannot watch until OTAs. That means they have to determine whether to pay $28 million sight unseen. Not going to happen. I would be surprised if Manning, thinking he will be ready, does not delay the payment. Look - Manning's best payout is to renegotiate his contract for the same money as incentive laden. He has to be sure he will be ready for play in the season opener because if Luck has to start, Manning will not stay here healing for a later date. Makes no sense. I do wonder if ego starts to be displaced by emotion.

Not exactly sight unseen, he can be seen by staff, but no video and nothing by the coaching staff or ownerhsip. But still, in truth sight unseen by those who
have a vested interest in whether he can play and at what level

My prediction is that the same people who spent the last 10 years telling us that Manning isn't that great will spend the next 10 years telling us that Luck is not as good as Manning.

Impossible to care about a team & player then not get emotional when they go separate ways. I just hope that the front office people rely on their brains rather than their emotions.

Who are these people saying Manning isn't great? Or do you mean isn't as great as Brady or other Qb's that have been on more championship teams? My prediction is Colts fans will become very interested in how Peyton does with his new team, because they won't have much to cheer about on the home front.

Granted trainers can work with him.

I am starting to pay attention to Luck - I think I could get used to a 12 replacing an 18.
