March 2, 2012 weather: PDS (paticularly dangerous situation)

To put it into perspective, a PDS is a pretty rare warning. The major tornadoes in Alabama last year came out of a PDS.

I think we're going to hear a lot of heartbreaking stories from Southern Indiana and elsewhere in the next few days.

At least one major tornado, possibly twin tornadoes a few dozen miles apart on the same basic path, between Louisville KY and Seymour IN as I write this.
    Cancer sucks.

Interior room on the lowest level of the house or structure is best. Bathrooms are good due to the piping in the walls, too. Be safe, y'all.

Four dead in Jefferson County IN. That's where Madison and Hanover are.

I'm familiar with the area because I used to take the back route to Kentucky Speedway. Often drove right through Vevay near the dam.

Just heard a report that a high school in southern Indiana may have been hit.

Prayers going out for everyone in harms way. Looks like we're in the clear here in central Indiana.
I ain't quiet, everybody else is too loud.

Let me know if you hear anything about Lawrenceburg, IN. Please.

I heard that, too, on CNN just now. Hopefully, they either dismissed early or had a solid shelter plan in place. This could be bad...

Tornado sighted west of Athens, AL...

...which would be their second of the day. They already suffered a hit this morning.

New Pekin, IN and several other areas also might have been hit by two tornadoes back to back.

Some students were on the bus heading home from Henryville high school. When the driver saw the tornado, he drove the students back to school, which was hit moments later.

It appears nobody was killed at the school, which suffered heavy damage.

On Twitter someone said that officials say one Southern Indiana town is "gone". They didn't say which one.

I saw at least two tornado emergencies issued today, which is only issued when a tornado is visually confirmed and a large population is in grave danger. I don't know of any other time that has happened...

My prayers are with everyone in this area, as much as I love weather these events make me sick to think of the loss of life.

Northern Kentucky (just across the river from Cincinnati) is getting hammered. Tennis ball sized hail and tornadoes have been reported. It's been moving into Clermont Co Ohio and they have a tornado on the ground right now 6 miles South of Bethel, OH. heading into Brown Co, OH. They said that a report from Dry Ridge, KY State Police post has moved into search and rescue mode.

I live in Central Hamilton County (Ohio)(8 miles from Northern KY) and we're fortunate because the Ohio River splits weather systems. They go North of us and South of us. We had some wind/rain/thunder/lightning but for the most part, Hamilton, Co (OH) saw nothing too severe.

Prayers need to be said for all the folks across all the states that are affected by these storms.

Here you go, Red Byrd....This was around 4:09pm. In all the years I've lived here I've never seen a tornado emergency...Two of those counties are in NKY, the other 3 in SW Indiana.

Another ongoing Tornado Emergency in N Kentucky right now... what a tragic night this is shaping up to be

I can find a purpose or a silver lining in almost every natural disaster... I have no idea what purpose tornadoes serve except destruction.

Stay safe all of you in the area.

We're okay down here, but our friends up in Dickson (30 minutes west of Nashville right on I-40) maybe not so. Bigfoot got a picture of the funnel cloud as it passed just north of Breezy Knoll. I had a devil of a time getting home, had to go all the way to Columbia (yes, Columbia!) to get out of downtown and thence north. Passed right through an area of rotation without being aware of it till my ears popped and the rain started to fall upwards...most disconcerting! But all the chicks are in the nest.

Prayers for all those affected...I will be going to Dickson tomorrow to make sure everyone is okay and offer help where needed.

Those images are just heartbreaking. And it hits home more having driven through some of these little towns in southern Indiana. Thoughts and prayers to those in harm's way tonight.
