The way people drink here it's probably safer that we don't have $11 thirty packs of Miller High Life readily available. The productivity rate may enter steep decline.

Most of my wife's family members are living in trailers or with friends after the flood. Funny, they have complaining about the lack of snow all winter. My mother in law had to leave Minot and was staying with my sister in law in Kenmare. They found parts of her house about 3 miles outside of town. Her uncle and his family lost everything as well. Friends of ours farm outside of Crosby was flooded for three months. They literally had to take a row boat about a half mile from where they couldpark their cars. They couldn't even get there on the tractors, and they are BIG tractors. There's work, but nowhere to live. ND isn't dealing well at all withdealing with the influx of people and the ills they are bringing to the state. Bring a trailer and a heavy suit if you're moving there. ND winter is not for the faint of heart.

If you have any sort of skill set, maybe something related to the oil field industry, you can make some huge bucks here in Alberta.
Have a look at the link below, it shows our "problems" in finding people to work.
Let me know through a message if you might be interested in coming out here.

Not necessarily oil field experience, but I am being trained on how to be a process operator, with intense focus on distillation. I have a job waiting for me, though, and a damn good one. I would love Canada, though.

The hours and conditions are horrible but hes making piles of money.

One problem is theres so many people coming up for work & theres no place for most of them to live so house and apartment prices are thru the roof. His company had set up a base camp of sorts but its little more than hut full of beds and lockers.

If I was 25 years younger...
It is Williston, as a good buddy of mine lives there. Not to derail this thread further...eh's trying to get me to come up this summer for the Dakota Modified Classic. Sadi I need a passport though, as one of the tracks is across the border.

you don't need a passport to cross the Canadian border by land, just by air.

Our average temp this winter has been 31F, and almost no snow until last week. I like the 19 hours of daylight in the summer, golf until 11pm or start at 4:30

The Edmonton Indy could start at 7pm and not need lights

...and we don't have to suffer through humidity either. It's Montana air.

Can you cross the border in a POV with a U.S. carry permit and heat in the glove compartment?

You can do anything if they don't catch you with it. Canadian jail is probably softer than American jail.

Nobody can carry here except cops, Brinks drivers and far northern trappers who would be in danger without a sidearm due to animals. Without registering them here, a US citizen can bring up to three non-restricted (longer than 16" barrel or 26" overall length guns, unlimited capacity rim fire, five shell centrefire or shotgun) for purposes of hunting with the filing of one form at the border.

The 2010 homicide rate in Alberta was 2.07 per 100,000. That compares to 7 in Missouri, 5.6 in Michigan, 4.9 in Texas and 4.3 in Alaska.

But I think our "Beat the crap out of stupid people" rate might be higher than most U.S. cities.

What I meant to say was enhanced drivers license. Enhanced drivers licenses allow people who live in border states with Canada and mexico in and out of the country without a passport.
