TSO Surmises That TMS is gone after 2012

Got e-mail yesterday that TSO thinks this year is the last for Texas and 1.5 mile tracks.

I'm sure gonna miss Indy Racing.

    From the e-mail:

"Said it yesterday, I'll say it again - after the last three weeks, I believe that this year's INDYCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway to be the last one that INDYCAR runs there."

Nothing says "don't buy tickets this year" like "not coming back next year"!

This sucks. Another high speed oval gone, and a long time solid partner. Not going all doom and gloom, I like road courses....but too many street courses is bad. Road America, Road Atlanta, the Glen, etc must be the replacements. IMO.

And Richmond, Phoenix, Michigan, Kentucky would be preferred

And that, boys and girls, is how rumors are born.

Oh, it wouldn't shock me if this is the last year, at least for now. It's pretty clear it's not a favorite of the drivers and team owners, generally speaking.

I do find it interesting that apparently Michigan and Richmond were closer to happening than we maybe thought, and they were even trying to fit Kansas back in this year. If those three tracks are all back in play, suddenly the thought of losing Texas is annoying, and certainly for fans in Texas it REALLY sucks, but it does offer a path through the wilderness, if you will.

EDIT: Thanks for the edit, mods.

I'll reserve comment until the '13 schedule is published.

Even if 2 of 3 came back you would still hear the wails of "RB hates ovals" "RB doesn't care about ovals" from the ovalistas (is that a word?)
I'd rather have 10% of the world interested in the ICS than 50% of US that NASCAR currently has

Simple solution, everyone that is upset at the idea of losing Texas should buy lots of tickets. If the sales are up there is no way it will not be back in 2013.

It seems Gossage doesn't really want Indycar back with how much griping he's been doing recently. He seemed to be a supporter until safety concerns directly effected him.

Yes, it's really about tickets sold. The attendance has dropped every year there, and at some point, it no longer makes business sense. Plus Gossage is going to be screaming over the reintroduction of the Houston Grand Prix, which has little bearing on his race anyway.
    Wanker!

Wouldn't surprise me....it seems that over the last 6 months or so Gossage has built up a level negativity towards the Indycar series that it makes it much easier from a PR move to not bring the race back in 2013.

    I guess TSO doesn't report.
I guess it's only a report if Robin or Oreo speculate on something....

Why didn't you just change the title to:
RUMOR MONGERS AT TSO SPECULATE THAT TMS COULD POSSIBLY NOT RETURN

Agreed. The distance between DFW and Houston is like driving from Louisville to Jacksonville. It will have no effect on him. The guy is coming off (again) like a carnival barker.

I know I am going to sound like an out-of-toucher here, but there is no need for more than a week off between Indy and the next race and Gossage forced that on the series so his race would get an Indy champ coming in with two weeks of exposure to the media. You can get a week out of it, at most. But, he forced his will on the rest of us because he is from Texas and that is what they do (whether it makes common sense or not).

I'm sure Gossage wouldn't mind the Indy Texas race staying on the schedule. He's just sick of his track being blamed for all the ills in this series' spec racing formula. Maybe the DW12 will offer enough separation during the race to help the drivers, teams and series leadership feel better about its future at high-banked ovals. One can hope....

I thought TSO stuff wasn't to be re-posted?

I have been less than impressed with Eddie Gossage during the last year. I don't know what to think of him, or his public comments regarding the series. I used to follow him on Twitter, but I don't anymore because of some of his comments after Vegas. It seems like he is throwing more negativity out there for some reason that I can only assume is personal gain or greed.

I'm also kind of interested in how he went from being a member of "KC And The Sunshine Band" to owning race tracks, just because I am curious and nosy I guess!

After the comments Eddie Gossage made about Indycar damn lucky to have people in the seats, I thought the very same thing. His comments were far more damaging than any made by naybody - driver or fan. In, fact I though Randy should've told him where to stick it. That is not a behavior that would be considered a true "partner" for the series....

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the racing at Texas. None better. Been to two Indycar races there myself. But I think the writing is on the wall here...

Nope, it's not reporting when they do it, either, because again, words have meanings.

All Eddie has done was defend his track which is safe. The series has been running at TMS since 1997 and nothing has changed to make it unsafe now. TK and Wilson brought up a drivers boycott which was another shot at his track. Those comments alone has done more damage to ticket sales then anything else.

What would you expect Eddie to say or do?

I think TSO does report. However, when, as you say, their comment is, "TSO thinks..." then this is not reporting. This is someone who is telling his opinion. This is like me saying "I think IndyCar will be back at Richmond next year" and then someone posts at thread titled "It is reported that IndyCar will be back at Richmond next year." Stating an opinion is different than reporting fact.

Exactly. Eddie's job is to serve the interests of Texas Motor Speedway.

Too much yet to happen to make that call. If the event is well attended, or not well attended, what other ovals could be added,, and on and on. WAY too early to call.

I think this whole thing is a trick cooked up by Eddie and Randy to sell tickets.
Get your head out of your past!!!

If so, that would be a really dumb trick.

No, they don't. That's part of what makes them dumb.
