    Lots of empty seats

Remember not too long ago when Bristol was the hardest ticket in NASCAR to get? Is it the progressive banking? The economy? Bumper alignment? Am I beating a dead horse? This is one of the few remaining races I try to catch.

Did Ya Notice Empty Seats At Bristol?

    Hey all,

I am not trying to start anything with NASCAR people today, but I couldnt help but notice the empty seats at Bristol today. I have my moments of enjoying NASCAR and I could not believe in fact I was seeing the empty seats at a place like Bristol. Is it the high gas prices? Are people tired of the constant in your face of the NASCAR marketing machine? Your thoughts?

    1. Bristol motels are INSANELY expensive

    2. Bristol fans like wrecking, and since they resurfaced the track the drivers didn't need to wreck anymore.
Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary… that's what gets you.

    3. Thanks to Youtube and word-of-mouth more and more locals are learning how in 2001 the WOO showed NASCAR up

    4. Kentucky Speedway may have taken much of the attendance. I knew tons of people from around here (Lexington) that used to go to Bristol every year.

Even after the traffic issues last year? You'd think more fan would be back with their tails between their legs. I'm surprised that NASCAR doesn't do more to do what hey can with hotel gouging. I'm also surprised that the promoter didn't do more to to fill those seats. I don't know what the answer is but it is harder to hide empty seats on TV at Bristol and Martinsville than anywhere else.

I wasn't trying to stir the pot, but I'm also not going to sugarcoat the question.

well believe what you want bro, I am approaching this from the health of racing in general INCLUDING NASCAR and just noticed the trend of empty seats whereas 10 years ago this place would have been totally full. Thank ya.

Sebring just had an estimated 60,000 people show up. The infield at the 24 of Daytona also had a packed house. Motocross seems to be packing them into stadiums every weekend.

IIRC Vegas and Phoenix had good attendance.

I just came from Sebring. They get a pretty good number every year. Most of those 60k are no where near watching the racing. On the other hand, attendance at the Rolex 24 at Daytona was a pleasant surprise.

My friends @ Red Barn Campground are telling me that they were only @ 35% capacity for the weekend. Their worst weekend since the frozen out March date.
