Why The Hype Never Matches The Result

I have been quite amused about the forum threads concerning the new drivers competing this year. Really, nothing changes year to year, just the hype concerning whoever is coming to IndyCar for the first time. It reminds me of the Chicago Cubs and their die hard fans. Talk about your eternal optimists! Its time for cold hard facts. Until Ganassi and Penske get out of IndyCar, its a 90% certainty that one of their guys is going to be champion. You will have the occasional brilliant drive by a Justin Wilson but those are far and few between. These new guys have mid-pack written all over them and that is where they will be when the final season finale takes place. It would be a miracle for Scott, Dario, Will, Ryan and Castroneves not to all be in the top five when the season is over. That's just the way it is. And I for one will be glad when the racing finally starts so the hype over the new guys finally ends. The brakes and tires are non issues. Ernest

    Thanks,

We really needed another thread/post from you with a poorly disguised attempt to let us know once again that you don't like Rubens Barichello and you don't think he will do very well.

We know and we've known for weeks that you don't like Rubens.

You are right about one thing though, the season is coming up quick and one way or the other we will find out about whether they hype was warranted or not.

What is your problem with the new guys? There is Rubens who I could not imagine would recieve less hype. And it is justified, I do not know why you are complaining. And there is Pagenaud. One of the worlds most respected drivers outside of F1. He deserves hype also. That is it besides Legge and Newgarden who have not been hype recievers.

All this is worthy for you to start a thread about?

Last year Briscoe was 6th (behind Servia & TK) and Helio was 11th (and Hinch would have tied him in points min. had he been able to start the race at St. Pete).

I don't think there's any guarantee of anything.

I think everyone expects Penske or Ganassi to win the title, but like in the DP-01 season week to week should be much more competitive.

I wouldn't be upset if Will Power wins the champ. IMO I think he deserves one. Doesn't matter if he's in a Penske or a HVM

Would it? Servia (running for Newman/Haas) and TK (running for KV) were in the top five in points last year, and Castroneves and Briscoe were NOT. And that's when everyone ran the same engines. Gee, was that a miracle? If Chevy ends up even a little stronger than Honda, things could get pretty interesting re: who manages to step up and outdrive Dario. It wouldn't be out of the question for Rubens or Pagenaud to have a season like Servia had last year, like it or not, and KV could end up quite strong with TK and Rubens working together and Chevy engines behind them.

But maybe it's more fun to just assume that the entire top five will be Penske and Ganassi cars for 2012, even though that's not even the way it happened in 2011.

That's why they have the races....

History clearly shows Penske and Ganassi dominate. The story is who will be the first of the rest. There is no hype in that. Certainly interesting, but there really isn't anything worth "hyping". Is Barichello worth hyping? Maybe if he were in a Penske or Ganassi, but in a KV. Nothing to hype. Kanaan is just a good a driver and he was no threat to the dominance of Penske and Ganassi.

I won't make any predictions, but if anyone can stick their nose under the Ganassi-Penske tent it will be KV Racing.

Ya, but he didn't beat the one that matters and that's the point. There are five drivers to get through and until certain teams decide to step it up you aren't gonna beat all five! Add Rahal and thats a sixth. So what's to hype? That Kanaan beat Helio? Who cares, hype it when he's first. Until then it's just more of the same.

Don't get me wrong, I've been super hard on KV and they could take it to Penske and Ganassi if they wanted. Hiring TK and now Rubens is a good sign that thy are getting more serious but with Viso still on the roster it's proof positive that they still aren't in the same operational range that a Team Penske or Target Ganassi are in. Until those moves are made to bring your team and team management into that level, nothing changes. Penske and Ganassi will continue to win. It's status quo.

I don't think Viso limits them from contention. Yes, he makes his share of mistakes, but it isn't as if he doesn't have the speed to win if he could just put it all together. But further, I don't think having one driver off the pace keeps you from contending for the championship. Helio was out of the Top 10 last year, and it didn't seem to impact Power all too much.

Briscoe drives like he has his helmet on backwards, too, and that doesn't stop Will from contending for championships or Helio from contending at Indy.

Since I didn't mention the 2011 standings once in my post, I don't know how I could be right or wrong about it. Ernest

Viso's team won their class at Sebring. I'm sure the other drivers helped, but still, he's proven he's capable of winning in something.

If that is just the way it is it must have happened, when were you talking about then?

Sure it does! Power lost the championship two years in a row because Briscoe was not a good enough driver.

And that wasn't even the point I was trying to make about Viso. The point I was trying to make with Viso.

So I guess you aren't watching this year with the outcome decided?

At one point all races were one by Foyt....then times changed...Penske was the rage...then Newman Haas with Michael and Mario....gosh why did Chip even start trying to play the game? Then Panther was beating Penske, Ganassi, and Andretti....then AGR...then Penske and Chip

Don't worry E, there s always someone coming for the big kid on the block. When Rubens wins the title I wonder what your season ending review thread will be?

I will agree with you if you get rid of the word "a" in the sentence I put in bold letters. I will support you forever if you never use the term, "having said that...".

Damn. I was getting excited for the new season for no good reason apparently. Time to re-think what I'm going to do on race weekends. NAH!!!

Who is telling anybody not to enjoy the season?

How do so many of you jump to the conclusions that you do? The conversations around this place would be so much better if some of you didn't fly off the deep end all the time.

Ernest says what's changed? Tell me how you go from there to not enjoying the season. Why not raise a compelling argument about why or how some other team will challenge, realistically challenge for the title this year. I swear this place is only full of two year olds fighting to be right or wrong. But none of you can so you try to attack Ernest instead.

Why bother having three guys on your team then if you are Penske? Why have four guys if you are Ganassi? Why not just put all your money and resources into one ride and go for it? It is this again Goldie and you are just wrong. Go ask any F1 team what the purpose of the second driver is! To take points off the competitors of your number one driver.
