    Crowd For St.Pete

Looks like it will be less than 1/2 full based on reserve grand stand ticket sales

St. Pete has Spring break going for it. Once the Fuzzy's umbrella girls contest gets going the place will fill up.

I believe St. Pete usually has quite a bit of walk-up business.

In an earlier thread someone stated that the first four races have seen increased ticket and corporate sales. Regardless... I'm doing my part, I'll be there for the first time.

Gotta love TF! Lets start a thread right before the season to try and take away from the fun and excitement! Has the username "Debbie Downer" been used already?

I needed that this morning. Thank you. If the nattering nabobs aren't complaining about TV ratings, field sizes, or blank sidepods, they are complaining about estimates they made from a website on ticket sales.

Complainers, here is what happens everywhere: The top 30 or so sponsors are already committed to allotments of tickets they get commensurate with their dollar level involvement. This is for every day of the event, but Sunday (race day) is handled different than the two GA days. They get a box of those tickets for those days. On Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, 30 couriers will be dispatched to these sponsors with an allotment of the remaining tickets for their employees, clients, and vendors. A big sponsor like Brighthouse Cable may have a commitment up to 500 purchased tickets in advance. They will get no more than 500 tickets. However, as I suspect, sales are more brisk than the doom and gloom this thread posits, and their apportionment of tickets will be less than 500. They are credited the difference and they win because their sponsorship exposure is met with the live crowd.

In the end, there will be very few main grandstand tickets for walk-up on race day for sale on race day. This is standard operating procedure for good to great promoters.

In other words...nothing to see here, move along.

The customers, or fans, are what makes this possible. This is an important topic. although it's not exciting. Let the poster have his say!!!

The article on IndyCar.com states that the suites are sold out and ticket sales are ahead of where they were at this time last year

“We’ve sold out all our hospitality suites,” said Ramsberger, vice president and general manager of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. “We’re pacing ahead of last year’s ticket sales, so commercially we’re doing well. From a preparation standpoint, we’re ahead of schedule on the track build. We’ve installed a couple of new curbs (on the course). We’re very excited to have the new car race here for the first time in St. Petersburg.”

If there's anything to be learned from St. Pete is that is always draws well year after year. I still wish ALMS was racing there though.

We heard the same BS tripe from the series regarding Las Vegas and attendance, with all year long promotion, freebies, IndyCars driving up and down the strip, nobody showed.
BUT we 'heard' all suites were sold out and ticket sales were great.

    Nope.

So we're all in agreement then? The 2012 running of the St Pete GP was a catastrophic failure, right?

    Nobody said failure.

Maybe its proving what many said about Danicas impact from her departure and to those that said Danica leaving wont harm attendance or tv ratings and the series will be just fine, as a matter of fact, better without her.

yep, and NASCAR needs to drop Bristol because there were too many empty seats at yesterday's Cup race; who cares if it was around 85,000 people, it "looked bad" on TV. They need to replace it with a Knoxville street race!

Was feeling the same thing. Getting psyched about the race this weekend. Look on TF for some good news and I see this. I don't even have a role in Indycar other than just being a fan but it has to be exhausting for the people running this. There is a constant focus on negativity. A lot of it is self-inflicted, but can't we just pretend to be all sunshine and lollipops and think about all the good things that have been lined up for the series?

Having a crappy day at work and just need a little escapism. Don't mean to take it out on anyone and I know I could have just skipped the thread. Just was expecting to see some upbeat posts considering we are less than a week away.

An important epiphany needs to be realized, my children...

If one does not want a chill put upon his season opening buzz...

DON'T COME TO THE FREAKIN' "RACING BIZ" OR "FOND FAREWELLS" FORUMS.

As my father would say to me much too often, "Buy you books, send you school, what do I get for it? Nuthin'."

In all fairness, the thread was originally in the IndyCar forum and moved later
