For Those at St Pete This Weekend - Short Track Racing on Sat.

East Bay Sprints is their own "weekly series". I'll be there on Sat night.

Nice track and its not too many minutes off the interstate. The food at the tavern on site is worth the ride
Faster than a bullet from a gun
    He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison

Thanks, Rich, for starting the thread for me.

I've basically two choices this week. first is Cleveland County Speedway over at Shelby. $23 to get in, big late model (any other kind here?) on Saturday night. I'm leaning that way.

Or, for only $10, I can go to Harris Speedway, a good bit closer (about 12 miles SE of Rutherford). However, they are advertising NINE classes of race cars.

Reminds me of FunFest, formerly a year ender done by Lawrenceburg, now done by Brownstown Speedway...with upwards of 20 classes running for a weekend.

I'd put it to a vote but you guy would send me to Harris. The rain may win out anyway.

What? You dont want to see a 4 cylinder bomber class followed by a 6 cylinder bomber class? Cmon, everyone LOVES when they run two or three different mini stock classes that all look alike.
Youve heard me moan about Southern tracks before but Ive been to a few of those $10 tracks and left every time feeling I didnt get my moneys worth. Stay FAR away.

Id rent Days of Thunder before I tried a Carolina track advertising that many classes

LOL Thanks for the laugh. I was in a crappy mood about getting up at 5 AM and the 3 hour drive to St. Pete in the morning, but not now.

Cleveland County is already rained out. Not too hot about Harris either. I read where Cherokee is running only 4 classes. Hoosier promoters get raked over the coals when they run 4 classes.

Thanks. No rain here, but got a little sunburned. Got lots of good photos of the new car. I've got a couple hours to file my story & get over to East Bay for some dirt.

Somewhat ignoring my good and right SC buddy, I paid a visit to the Cherokee Motor Speedway, near Gaffney, SC. Lovely race track. Other than that? Huge difference when one crosses state lines sometimes, eh?

Nothing like 4 or 5 car heat races on a wide 3/8 mile to get your blood pumping. And the PA guy said they were trying something new: group qualifying for all.

Thought I was late when I arrived at 8 p.m. but I wasn't. First race at 9:35 p.m. after a somewhat hideous version of the Anthem. I left after the modified feature. It was 12:30 a.m. Had been texting people off and on.

That Fishburger fella texted me Sunday afternoon, asking if the feature was over yet.

O'Neal over Owens at Brownstown Indiana Icebreaker

O'Neal over Owens at Brownstown Indiana Icebreaker

BROWNSTOWN, IN (March 24, 2012) - Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN won his fourth career

Indiana Icebreaker Presented by Bowman Auto Group on Saturday Night at the Brownstown Speedway. O'Neal started sixth in the 50-lap main event and went on to capture the $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event in front of a huge crowd.

O'Neal and defending Series Champion Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN traded the lead four times, until O'Neal pulled ahead for good on lap 36. Owens held a good lead over O'Neal until lap 26 when O'Neal reeled Owens in as they went through lap traffic.

Wanna know what's wrong with NASCAR? They've gone from Junior Johnson to Jimmie Johnson.

Wanna know what's wrong with IndyCar? It's gone from dirt ovals to street races.

We got rained out at my new track. They called it early and believe it or not they were joking around saying "hey we got time to make it to Gaffney". The place is a joke even to other SC tracks

What I do not understand is how can these drivers think that being in a 4 car heat and a 7 or 8 car feature is worth all the time and money? I cant even call it racing some of the time as there are some races where there are no cars in the same corner at the same time
