    INDYCAR Shop Discount

I received my INDYCAR Nation pack the other day, and it included the card for 10-20% off the new online store at shop.indycar.com. I tried to enter in my discount card # on my profile, and received this:

Invalid club number. The card number you have entered is not a valid card number. If you recently purchased your club membership, please allow 48-72 hours before registering your card. If you continue to experience difficulties, please contact Customer Care at 855.852.4178.

So I'm wondering if it's just a temporary thing, or if anyone else received the same message. Has anyone else tried theirs yet?

I tried. Got the same message.

Me as well. I'm wondering if we're all still in the 72-hour period in which we can't register the card. I only received it yesterday, so it may be under 3 days since we are considered to have "purchased" the membership, if in this case "time of purchase" means "time when Indycar Champions activated the cards and put them in the mail."

What does the hat for 2012 look like?

It doesn't look like any of them on the Lids/Indycar shop website. Not exactly, that is. It's sort of like the one linked to below, but all black and no mesh (all cloth), with nothing on the brim. So, all black with the embroidered Indycar logo on the front in the center of the hat. Also says "Lids" in white embroidery on the left side of the hat. Adjustable band in back made of the same black cloth as the hat, with sort of a brass-looking slide for the adjuster band.

Also some new clings (which I am still surprised "cling" so well to my bumper after repeated car washes).

And it's just about the size to fit your 9 year old. I wear a 7 1/2 and even completely unbuckling the strap, the crown doesn't even fit on my head.
I'm still thinking about how to word a complaint. It's a nice gesture to send out hats but, as a marketing tool, it's not very good that not everyone can wear it, and it's especially bad that folks will believe that "Lids" hats don't fit properly. When those of us in the L/XL category wind up with a hat that doesn't fit we usually write off that manufacturer.

The Firestone pen on the lanyard is neat. Would have been really cool if it had been a sharpie marker. But still really neat.

I like it as well, but it has a magnet on it so be careful where you carry it. Many years ago I was teching cars at 99 Speedway in Stockton and was carrying around a small magnet in my pocket to check that steel parts were actually steel. Racing went late and when, at about 0130, I got back to The Fleabag Arms where I was staying I had to wake up the manager to get in my room - I'd de-magnetized the key.

I hear you. Most flex fit hats fit me about like a tourniquet. I usually have better luck with the adjustable strap but some manufacturers take massive liberties with the phrase "one size fits most". Anyway, I guess I'll be surprised when I get my kit.

I received my package yesterday. Sorry a few others have found that the hat doesn't fit, however, it fits my pinhead quite well (7 1/8 - 7 1/4). I liked the style also. The logo appears to be slightly off center but a well constructed hat. Thanks Nation!

Like both fitted and adjustable hats, it depends on who makes the flex fit. The "Flex Fit" brand in L/XL (like Simona's hats) fits me fine. I've got Under Armour "Four Way Stretch" hats in both L and XL - both fit fine, except the XL might blow off in a strong wind. I've got a Proflex in XL/XXL that's fine, although an XL probably would have worked. And then I've got a New Era in L/XL that makes my ears go to sleep - in New Era fitted caps, the marked size is just an approximation.

But the point of all that is that those of us with "generous" sized heads pay attention to the manufacturer which is why I think it's a mistake for Lids to try to promote themselves (and IndyCar) by sending out poorly fitting hats. If you try on a "fits all" hat that isn't even adult size, why would you want to then buy another hat from that manufacturer?

LOL, I had to employ a similar defense when my package arrived in the middle of the week. Love the new hat, it fits perfectly on my head (I wear a 7 1/2 or 7 5/8); been wearing it around town all week.

I was finally able to activate my Indycar Gear Club card! Those of you who weren't able to activate it last week might want to try again.
