    Penske wants more US races

Here's some quotes Jenna Fryer got from Roger Penske concerning the schedule.

"I don't think we need 20 races. We need 15-16 races that are events in the right markets. And some ovals."

"We understand there is going to be a race in Houston. I like Houston, we can run at Reliant Park."

Penske wants more US races, permanent cities: "I haven't seen anyone calling up wanting to write a big check to go to China."

Penske says Canada and Mexico .. "north America" ... Is best for #indycar in terms of luring new fans, getting media coverage.

Penske wants 1/3 ovals, 1/3 street courses, 1/3 road courses but "the key thing is to run here in the U.S." #indycar

    And a few other tidbits

Speeds @ Indy? "only way you or I can tell the difference between 230 or 220 or 216 is by looking at a # on the scoreboard," says RPenske

RPenske says "I sure hope another engine manufacturer steps in if Lotus drops out" and GM and Honda will step up if there's a supply issue
Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary… that's what gets you.

So El Capitan wants 2/3 twisties and 1/3 ovals. Not surprising.

It's not surprising at all. There has been a trend over the last number of years to group road courses together with street circuits and that isn't fair. They are very different circuits. thirds is how it should be and I prefer ovals.

What does Roger know? If Randy and company want to have races all over the world, they need to tell Roger to shuddup or go start his own gig.

Hah! There is no "Randy and company." He's just an employee of the Hulman-George family. Not so certain they have designs on world domination.

Funny Roger is saying this, I guess he forgot when he used to own 3 very high class ovals (California, Michigan, and Nazareth).

Isn't it funny how ISC is treating INDYCAR now the exact same way it treated CART 10 years ago?

I think he is absolutely correct. Numbers may sell print media, but, in real terms nobody can determine speed difference (215-230) when only one car is on the track. I know I certainly can't.

I'de rather have 12 well promoted and supported super big blow out spectacular events than 20 races no one cares about.

oh wow Roger wants CART circa 1994......SHOCKER!!!!!

but he's seriously on crack if he thinks more races are bad

and Roger needs to hush about these tracks considering he sold all his tracks to NASCAR and sold CART down the river, he certainly hasn't had the best interest of the sport at heart in the past

Penske is even vaugely hinting that it's possible Lotus could drop out? He's acknowledging that there could possibly be a supply problem?

I'm pretty sure Roger has no clue of the inner-workings of the Lotus operation, hell even their own teams don't. Roger needs to worry about not getting his ass kicked by Ganassi again

It's just Judd, a company previosly producing Indycar engines and a VERY well known quantity.

The "Lotus" name is just a check from Proton, the owner of the Lotus brand. ZERO technical involvement from Lotus.

Hey Roger here is a perfect start. Drop the parade at Belle Isle, take the Chevy bucks to MIS the last weekend in July where it used to run. You do that for me and I'll follow you damn near anywhere!

The Lotus CEO publicly admitted that it was 50/50 that the parent company would even keep Lotus going.

But the Lotus apologists around here know more than him I guess...

I agree with what Roger said. Having races for the sake of having races is not smart. We need like 18 events that are successful.

  23. #23
Roger want only 15 or 16 races because this is a hobby for him. He wants to spend more time at his NASCAR business. How do you get more fans? I know less races that will get you more fans.

Indycar thinks if you talk about having races you will get more fans. NASCAR understands its the racing get you fans but not 36.

How about you start the week after the Super Bowl and race almost every weekend and end the season around Sept 30.

Or Mercedes. They aren't entirely happy over in F1! I'd be courting them heavily and making promises about a race at Lausitz.

Or Dodge, unless some B level team in NASCAR is able the step up big time they may not have anyone running Chargers next year in Cup. Might as well spend that money somewhere...
