Hmm... yeah, if I showed up at Texas Motor Speedway three to four hours before the race I'd die of heat stroke. Used to, there was only one way into TMS and it caused backups for miles. It took about five good years before it was alleviated on I-35; now it doesn't take that long. Sometimes it just takes time to make these things work.

Can teams afford to race more than 18 races, from a sponsorship/funding standpoint?

They can if they get more sponsorship/funding.

Maybe that's why they don't get enough money because INDYCAR doesn't race enough.

Well, then that makes two. And I'm suspect that RP actually means what he says or is just saying what he knows he should be saying. In 1994, they damn well could tell the difference in speeds down the straights with the Mercedes.

Compare a clip of the 1996 race and the 1997 race......Ray Charles could see a difference in the speeds.

I like the idea of having mostly North American races with a regular rotation of Australia, Japan, China, etc. To fill one or two dates a year. The focus needs to be here, this is where the sponsors are, this is where the money is. Nascar has proved that there is plenty of money around for leagues who stay national.

Argentina, Surfers Paradise, and one or two races in Asia isn't that much to ask. Especially considering that Surfers is a great track for open wheel.

IndyCar at Fuji or Okayama? Also, I think IndyCar can make good use of the Goldenport track in China. Let's not forget there's some really fun tracks in Argentina and Surfers is great.

IndyCar should fill in the market that F1 lost

Easier said than done. Adding more races doesn't necessarily mean sponsors are willing to pay more. I believe that's why Penske want's 15-16 race schedule. Last time AOW series ran 18 or more points races was CART in 2003.

If the ICS had a 20 race schedule & they included your tracks (Argentina, Surfer's, & the two Asian races...China + Japan) we still have the Brazil event. That leaves a domestic, North American based series with 15 races. These fly away races cost a helluva lot more than Mid Ohio or Baltimore. At least CART had Fed Ex as a sponsor back in the day to absorb travel costs.

Most of these teams get their $$$ from North American based companies. Target wasn't even in Canada a few years ago... China & Argentina gives them zero ROI. Most of the current sponsors would get absolutely nothing paying for 5 fly away races.
