Why are the boys on the broadcast announcing a new track record by Hinch?
Bourdais ran a 1.00.928s back in 2003.
Hinch's 1.01.4491 is slower. How is that a new record?

"Try some of these before or after your statements if you are not presenting them as facts. Things like - "In my opinion", or "I think that", JHMO, IMHO, IMO, JMO... Your opinions are not (necessarily) fact. That would clear things up some." - Seadog 03/25/2010 11:40am So the above is JMO.
"INDYCAR Series" track record.
I guess they're being selective![]()
Wasn't the 2003 course slightly different?
Wanker!
Curbing for turn 10 wasn't as pronounced in 2003, but it really wouldn't be that much of a difference.
Not a very impressive time for the new car. Less weight, carbon brakes, more hp and more downforce should see the cars well under last years time, not only up a few tenths.
Record now to Will Power 1:01.3721
dont forget the slower curbing this year
I have a couple questions...what kind of times do y'all think the top F1 teams would achieve on this circuit and is there any other car racing in Noth America that you think could do it quicker?
Thanks
"I wasn't going to finish 2nd today...2nd was not in the cards...I was either going to win or i was not going to finish at all..." Eddie Cheever-Victory Lane,Indianapolis Motor Speedway 1998
I wouldn't be shocked if an F1 car could get into the 56-57 sec range, but that's just my guess.
As for a car racing in NA that could go faster, not sure, but I'd love to see what the new Audi R18 could do. However, I think they would fall just short of running as fast as the DW12.
As for the ChampCar/CART time that has been thrown around, that's great, but that was also with a car that had many miles on it. I suspect the DW12 will get down there with time, there is a lot to be learned on this car, speed just doesn't happen overnight, it takes a lot of miles to find it.
There's just no substitute for good old fashioned horsepressure! Imagine the DW-12 car with 900+ hp? Just a beast rocketship ... the way God intended racecars to be! If that's too much for some drivers, and fans for that matter, to handle ... then they need to find something else to do with their time!

On one of the Q thread there was a link to an Autoweek story where RHR was saying in the past you cxould drive over the curbs, buty with these new one you have to tip toe around and not hit them. Before you could straighten out the corner and go much faster. If I come across the link I'll come back and post it here, but it is one of the P or Q threads.
So, with that in mind, with the old curbs it is not hard to imagine these cars getting around even faster still.
"Is that my *** that I smell burning?" ... Helmet Stogie from "Death spasms of the Mabuchi"
if we're saying the new car out of the box is faster that the IRL car & within .5 of the best of CART, I'll say, "that's a good start."
we have 26 cars + two F1 vets buried in the field. the guy with overall track record is last in field.
..........and wait till next year with more team experience, sorted engines, and aero kits.
who the hell is whining here?????????
"Young enough not to care too much about the way things used to be.
I'm young enough to remember the future. The past has no claim on me.
I'm old enough not to care too much about what you think of me.
But I'm young enough to remember the future. The way things ought to be."
That's the cool thing about having fake/bs tracks....make the curb taller, you change the track, and it's a "circuit qualifying record"
You wont find this garbage at Indy, Michigan, Milwaukee, etc......
"I think there's only so many people that can take care of themselves, and can take care of other people. And the rest of the people … they're useful in terms of compost for the whole planet, you know." - Bill Murray
I'm simply saying every tweak....curbs are taller so you can't jump them....changes the entire track...records at these places are next to impossible to respect. When they take out the chicane and pave the railroad tracks at Baltimore, and the cars are 4 seconds faster, is that gonna be some landmark unbelievable record? Or just some BS that was manipulated?
Except with these curbings the track is the slowest it has ever been, and yet they are going around it faster than ever.
Unless you count the fact that the track record at Indy was set when they were running down on the apron. You wont find this garbage at Indy, Michigan, Milwaukee, etc......
If they run faster at MId Ohio or Barber or Sonomoa or the glen or Infineaon or Road America.....it'll be a record. Cause it's a set piece of real estate
I'm not dogging road racing. I'm dogging street courses
Well, I hate street racing too. I live in St. Pete and I won't even go to the race. I didn't even go when ALMS was there.
All race tracks change. For instance, the walls on the ovals are now a little closer because the SAFERS are now there. Indy was repaved. Indy was diamond ground. The aprons were removed. A lot of things have been done thare that have cxhanged how fast the cars can get around. Like, imagine how fast the Indycars could get around laguna seca if they could run the 1984 version.
I think it is safe to say the new Indycar holds a ligitimate track record here because the track itself is slower than it has ever been. If they had shortened the course or something, that would be different, but this s pretty much the same course it has always been except the curbings are close to jump proof. I can't find that AutoSport link where RHR talks abbout the curbs, but it is pretty clear it slowed things way down.
Well said
I'm not fighting you Doc! I just don't know the point in "track records" at something that isn't a track. As soon as a manhole cover gets moved and the race line is adjusted to dodge the bump....records are irrelevant
I know that. We're just discussing. that's what's great about Track Forum.
Absolutely true, but permanent tracks change too. For instance, there was a set of esses before the keyhole at Mido Ohio, and now they bypass it. They added an entire infield section to Laguna Seca. There's the festival curves at Portland, and at Road Atlanta they replaced the fearsome dip with a chicane complex. There's now a chicane at Road America too. Actually, I am having a hard time thinking of an older circuit that hasn't been changed.I just don't know the point in "track records" at something that isn't a track. As soon as a manhole cover gets moved and the race line is adjusted to dodge the bump....records are irrelevant.
