Thread: Hi-Res Photos from IndyCar and IMS?

  1. #1

Question Hi-Res Photos from IndyCar and IMS?

I hesitate to ask this, because I do not want the security of any potentially mentioned sites to be changed.... but...

Up until about 4 or 5 months ago, you could access the "backdoor" side of the IMS media page. This offered access the press/media news briefings, and what I enjoyed the most, the high resolution images (4200x2800) from the speedway. This was the address: http://media.indianapolismotorspeedw...p?section=main

Now, that page is not accessible.... I'm not surprised... it was good while it lasted.

So, does anyone know of any web pages with, good, high resolution pictures? Know what the new IMS page address is? Or if there is a similar page for IndyCar?

    Thanks!

    Hope this helps.
I am a fan of the IZOD IndyCar Series, Formula 1, and AMA Supercross in that respective order.

So just to make sure I understand it, you're looking for another site you can steal photos from for free, since you can't steal anymore from IMS/IndyCar ?

Just seeing if I understand your post correctly.

LAT USA now does the high resolution photos for IndyCar. That's where you'll find them.

Jorgensen Eagle, I didn't steal them before. A simple google search returned the IMS address. I didn't hack into the site.

    LAT USA
Thanks Miguel. Those are really nice too!

Right. You walked into a back door that IMS left open and grabbed what you wanted.

As i understand it. If I leave my back door unlocked and you walk in and take my tv, that's still theft even if you didn't "hack" into my house.

If you want free photos that is understandable, but making yourself out to be this Robin Hood noble thief is a bit over the top.

You have to pay for LAT USA's high resolution images? They watermark low res images to get clients to buy the high res...

Motorsport.com also does not offer fans high resolution... they would go out of business giving those types of files away.

Some folks will dump high res files onto personal Flickr accounts.

Hey, no need to offer a phony, sarcastic apology to me, I'm not the one you're stealing from.

Bow down as much as you want dude, but you're the one who said you "do not want the security" of the sites changed.

If that's not a guy who is taking what isn't his, I'm not sure what it is.

    Again, you're not Robin Hood.

It would be better if you just came out and said what you want, "Hey, is there a place I can get cool hi-res IndyCar photos without the bother or expense of paying for them".

I understand Motorsport as well as LAT USA charging, or anyone else that wants to charge for their pictures. I didn't realize that the media page was a PAY page.

So, "Hey, is there a place I can get cool hi-res IndyCar photos [that are free?]"

The media site is, wait for it, FOR THE MEDIA.

It's not for random people to just grab as many photos as they want.

You want to know how I know this, because this is what is says.

The use of any photos or INDYCAR trademarks/logos obtained from this site is limited to valid news-reporting purposes only. Any other use, whether commercial or otherwise, requires the prior written consent of INDYCAR, LLC. Use of this site and any of its content, including without limitation photos, trademarks and logos, constitutes acceptance of these terms.

I assume you already got the prior written consent of IndyCar to use their photos for a non-news reporting purpose, right?

Here's a nice, I'm assuming free photo on this news pages website: http://www2.tbo.com/news/auto-racing...ute-ar-384945/
I clicked on the image and it directed me to this address: http://www2.tbo.com/mgmedia/image/0/...0326martinjpg/

But I'll have to check with Jorgensen Eagle to see if it's ok to download.... because "media" is in the web address.

So, Jorgensen Eagle, is it ok for me to download?

Don't be douchey. He's being pretty clear to you that what you've been doing is NOT the intended use for those sites. They're not "fan" sites.

The LAT USA dedicated IndyCar media site is free for editorial use, but you'll need to send the guys from LAT USA an e-mail with details about you and your medium for access to the high resolution photos.

For years the password to the media site was 'media' . the username was 'indycar'............................

That aside, i dont get the uptight reaction. While it may be a breach of terms of service (or whatever legal term) to take the photos for non-media purposes, the harm being done is so negligible. Which makes the reaction all the more funny.

I assume HoosierWhoDat is not using the photos for any commercial reasons. And he is not depriving Indycar of any minimal lost revenue as they weren't for sale to the public anyway.

I bet the OP is making tons of money off this deal. He must be stopped.

What do you do for a living? Would you enjoy it if people came in and stole your service/product? Oh, it's just for personal use, so it's OK right?

Well thanks for speaking for me. But I am not "offended" at all. As I said, it wasn't my property being stolen from the IMS media site.

All I wanted was the op to confirm he just wants free hi-res photos for personal use.

I did think it was important to mention to the op that the people he was stealing from ARE TF members, so being so brazen and unrepentant about it wasn't a great idea.

If they aren't locking it up, and they aren't charging for it, and no one is making money off it, yeah, I don't see the need to crucify the guy.

They are the same photos sold at the IMS shop for 10 bucks each.

So to say "they aren't charging for it" would be incorrect.

Like I said. Just because the back door was left open doesn't mean I can walk into your house and take whatever I want and then say, well, he didn't lock it up.

If you go to WalMart and steal a bunch of cd's and you keep them for "personal use" you're not making "tons of money" off the deal either.

But if Walmart doesn't lock up the cd's well enough, that's ok eh?

If they are in fact the same photos they sell in the photo shop, then yeah that's not good.

But your unlocked house is not quite the same as the internet.

Poor analogy. If you walk out to the street and drop a $100 bill in the gutter before driving away, and someone walks along 30 minutes later and picks it up, is that still "stealing"?
