Bryzgalov may get all the criticism but on the two goals by the Flyers which I've seen, Brodeur did not look sharp.
Strange game.

This ice is miserable. I cannot remember so many players just tumbling to the ice. It is the same for both teams, but it's embarrassing for the Stanley Cup playoffs to be played in these conditions. Simple passes go awry when the puck just stops.
Losing Coutourier is hurting the Flyers. Only a 19-yr old rookie, but a huge loss to the forward rotation. Looked like a knee injury to me...hope it's not too bad.

If you are playing a skilled team you "heat up" the ice........this is the pros and every Icemeister in every building knows exactly what they're doing.......if Jersey was a high skilled passing team the chillers would have been upped last night and the ice would be hard to get a razor to cut into it.......they know their place in the pecking order and changed the ice to suit.....now Ranger's ice sucks simply because it's on the 4th floor and no one was ever smart enough to put a solid mass under it to hold cold and instead relied on insulation.....silly humans

It does seem that even when Bryzgalov is playing well, his body language and his movement within the crease never exudes confidence.
Roy was so arrogant that even when the puck was behind him, he treated it with contempt : Bryzgalov seems to let out a sigh of relief every time he stops it.
The best of the best is in Edmonton......I believe he was called in to save one of the Olympic events several years ago......but after a couple years in the building the book is written for humidity, temperature, crowd size, event change and basically a high school kid could take over in theory.........but there's always that one odd event which they keep the Icemeisters in the building.......I believe for the Finals the guy from Edmonton is brought in to alleviate the "skewing" of the ice by one side or the other.
Part of the reason for the poor ice is Bruuuce-related. He played a long, late show last night and they didn't have the requisite time to prepare.
If someone doesn't win early while the ice is decent, this one will probably end on a fluke.
The chillers could have been turned up yesterday morning.......it's not the first concert any playoff season has seen......I recall elephant pee on the ice the one Flyers playoff season as the circus moved out the night before........the ice was hard, the ice was unsanitary looking, the ice was very hard.
Hardest ice I've ever seen is in Saranac Lake NY......it's a sand rink, no paint, you look through a pristine 10" of ice to the sand and if you don't sharpen the blades before you play you're dog meat.
I remember my family visiting friends in St Louis many years ago. Their boys played hockey and we were told that the rink had been there so long that the ground under the rink had more or less turned into permafrost and had become frozen solid many many feet under the rink
Flyers have to do a better job on the draws.
crap....game over.
Doink! The Flyers looked gassed for some reason and it looked like they would have trouble holding on to the end of the period
You pay for your mental errors : terrible change at that stage of the game.
2 rookies dropped the ball at the same time according to the boys in the studio.
Im sure they both saw the puck leave the zone and all they had on theirr mind was to get off the ice ASAP.
Momentary brain phart.
brain phart = Phillies

Both teams had their chances, the Devils just executed a little better. I liked that the Flyers at east competed hard and came back from 2-1 and 3-2 to force OT. Couple of posts for both sides...Sunday night just became the biggest game of the season for Philly.
In the other series from last night, it looks like the Blues are toast. Elliott let in two bad goals and the Kings just look to be outworking, outskating, and outmuscling St. Louis.
I haven't followed the Kings much this year but I thought that the Blues would shine in the play-offs.
And another misread by me.![]()
Kudos to the Devils. They stuck it out and beat. I can't complain.
And what about those Kings? Fairly pleasant surprise (this coming from a Ducks fan), so it will be interesting to see how they progress.

The Blues had an outstanding regular season, but it's only the Cup playoffs that count. It's all about the Cup!
Have a very blessed day!
I would not bet against the Kings right now, even if they were playing the Canadian national team.
My husband has just alerted me that the big tv is all mine for hockey tonight. Too bad there is only one game tonight! I guess it's because I've been good about not nagging him about it the past couple of nights.![]()
Not a bad game after two periods between Nashville and Phoenix but with all the close in scoring chances that Nashville is missing, there will be a lot of second guessing regarding the decision to continue to sit-out Radulov and Kostitsyn if Nashville loses.
While I agreed with the decision to have those two players sit out Game 3, I don't agree with keeping them out of game 4 . Surely the message has been effectively sent to the players and to the team but to continue to keep your top offensive players out of the lie-up beyond the initial game is simply hurting Nashville's overall performance and chances .
Granted, if Smith keeps making the puck-handling errors that he has made so far, the Predators could pull this out and Trotz could look like a principled genius ..........................but I still think it was the wrong decision.
Grapes (Don Cherry for you newcomers) actually advocated not punishing them even in Game 3. Kind of a boys will be boys, this is the Playoffs! deal. I thought that Trotz made the right decision then, but he could have let them play tonight and show they had learned their lesson.
