I can only hope the Rangers go down...wipe that smug grin off Tortorella's face. But honestly, he has them playing great team D and having the King in goal...pretty strong.

I think you and slim know know I'm hoping for a different Round 1 outcome...one that will also tick off Bat Boy. I just hope the refereeing is playoff-quality. The calls made in the last game of the regular season were awful.

I have to agree with you here. The officiating in the last month of the season has been terrible.

I'm hoping for some good, entertaining games. However, watching Laviolette lose his mind would be entertaining to see again....

I am ashamed to admit I missed that last game between the Pens and Flyers and only just got to see the footage of that blowup. Wow Lavy...

So is it a bad thing when the coach calls a time out 8 minutes into Game 1?

Faster than a bullet from a gun
    He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison

No...but it's a bad thing to give up a goal in the last minute to go down 3-0...

It actually was the second to last regular season game where Lavy lost his mind. The final game the refs decided to keep the game under wraps by calling a bunch of really overblown penalties. They turned a simple penalty into a 5-min major and another one into a 10-min misconduct. The Pens aren't the soft team of the pre-Mario days. Let both teams settle it on the ice.

Pens offense looks very solid, they do give up a bunch of odd-man rushes on D though...and of course, Fleury looks like he has found his rythm just in time. Flyers back to 1-3 halfway through the 2nd, but Pens going on the PP. Crap.

    Me too!
BTW, the Preds are beating the Wings 2-1 with 9 1/2 minutes to play in the 3rd.

Flyers win 4-3 in OT. They came back from a 3-0 deficit!

Big time choke. Maybe scoring 3 quick ones was too much too soon

    Pathetic

Did they lose their luggage and borrow some gear from the Bruins?

Flyers really picked up their play, but they don't win without the Pens going into a shell. They stopped competing, fighting for the puck, and it bit them. That and Bryz finally remembering how to stop the puck!

Wow...'O Canada' in Vancouver was pretty magical. chills...

I caught that anthem too. Very impressive. That non call on the offsides was possibly a game changer. The linesman will not sleep well tonight

I figure a minimum of three games for Shea Weber for his double attempt to destroy Zetterberg at the end of the Red Wings/ Predators game ; if it was during the regular season, he would get ten games.

Possibly the most blatant attempt to injure I have ever seen.

LA only needs three more wins.

I agree it was a pretty blatant miss, but it remains that the Pens were still up 3-1, going into the 3rd, at home...their lack of team effort is what cost them the game.

Were we supposed to have defense for the second and third periods too??? Someone forgot to tell the smug Pens that they needed to play the whole game....

Seriously. They talked a big game, but played only 20 minutes. Pretty much pulled an Arsenal.

Saying that, the series isn't over yet.

...and I lose even more respect for Brendan Shanahan and the NHL. $2500 and no suspension. From Yahoo!:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) The NHL has fined Nashville defenseman Shea Weber $2,500 for slamming Detroit forward Henrik Zetterberg's head against the glass at the end of Game 1.
Weber was assessed a minor penalty for roughing, and the NHL announced the fine Thursday while the Predators were practicing. The league noted the fine was the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Brendan Shanahan, the NHL's chief disciplinarian, says it was a reckless and reactionary play with Weber throwing a glancing punch before shoving Zetterberg's head into the glass. Shanahan says league officials were told Zetterberg did not suffer an apparent injury and is expected to play Friday in Game 2.

The NHL notes the play will be a factor if Weber is involved in any further incidents in the postseason.
So just because he didn't actually hurt him, he get's off?

Not by a long shot. The Flyers were the best road team in the whole NHL this season, but their home record has been average at best. If the Pens can keep play in the Philly end, they can dominate. Anxious to see if Flyers rookie D-man Bourdon can play game 2. He's been a good young player. Thankfully, the Flyers do have Pavel Kubina (scratched in Game 1) available to take his slot.

A provision with the CBA? Was that something cooked up by the NHL or NHLPA. Seriously, he deserves a full playoff suspension for that.

Im amused if the players union stands behind the guilty player in instances like this.

Im gonna guess the player that got the cheap shot is a dues paying union member too
