Cancer sucks.
How about we look at some numbers? First, let's put Phillips to rest. Aaron Hill of the Diamondbacks (who did not get selected) has better numbers than Phillips. Do you hear him or his manager complaining? Phillips hit .283, Hill .300. On base plus slugging? Phillips .768, Hill .871, pretty big difference. Hill has 1 more HR, Phillps has 8 more RBI's. Advantage: Hill.
Cueto vs. Hamels vs. Kershaw (the 2 who DID get selected by Tony, not all of them as intimated by Ren). BTW, neither the fans OR the players had Cueto in their top 5 (so much for your top 3).
ERA? Hamels 2.32, Kershaw (Cy Young winner) 2.19, Cueto 2.26.
Won/loss? Hamels 10-4, Kershaw 6-4, Cueto 9-4
Hits? Hamels 94, Kershaw 91, Cueto 98.
Strikeouts? not even close. Hamels 111, Kershaw 112, Cueto 79
Batting average? Hamels .232, Kershaw .219, Cueto .246
All things being equal, Cueto deserved it for his outrageous behavior during the brawl. Numbers are a toss-up at best.
Cards fans are used to sour grapes. We get that a lot.
Talk about slinking away........

As soon as you started calling other posters ignorant, that was the end of it.
Now, anybody who had been paying attention would have realized that LaRussa said Cueto would have made the team if he weren't pitching Sunday. Any comparison to other pitchers was moot at that point.
Moving on...
Well, I was fairly certain you were ignorant of the stats, that's why I posted them. I think that's still what the term means. If you weren't ignorant of them you would have seen that he was not "easily" a top 3. Simple extrapolation.
Have a nice Fourth.
Meanwhile........Chisox take first two from Rangers, third game being played in 102 degree heat. I suppose the Rangers may be used to that!
National/regional games (not in-market) available in Indy this weekend:
Friday: Yankees @ Red Sox (MLBN)
Saturday afternoon: Yankees @ Red Sox, game 1 of day-night DH (MLBN)
Saturday evening: Yankees @ Red Sox, game 2 of day-night DH (FOX)
Saturday late-night: Orioles @ Angels (MLBN)
Sunday afternoon: Braves @ Phillies (TBS)
Sunday night: Yankees @ Red Sox (ESPN)
*sigh*
Thankfully we also get the Reds, Cubs, and WSox in-market...
The networks never seem to miss a Red Sox/Yankees game! It gets old after awhile!![]()
Have a very blessed day!
It's the same conversation with football and maybe some other sports:
I know it draws ratings. Just give me a little variety.![]()
Detroit beat my Sox tonight in the 1st game of a 3 game series. The Tigers have went 8-2 in their last 10 while the Sox have gone 4-6. The Sox lead is down to 1/2 game.
Yea, after spending 30 days or so in first it looks like the Sox are folding from a bit of pressure from the Tigers. Disappointing, but it was fun while it lasted. Too many pitching injuries have devastated their starting rotation and bullpen. Maybe if they hang around they can get healthy and give it one last push.
After a short bit of success, the Cubs were outscored 23-1 in a three game series in St. Louis.
As much crap as the NL Central gets, it could very well become the first MLB division ever with three playoff teams...
I know he asked to be traded, but it just doesn't seem right to see Ichiro Suzuki in something other than a Mariners jersey...and it sure doesn't make me happy to see him in Yankee pinstripes. Only upside is it would be nice to see him win a championship...too bad all the other Yankees would have to win one too.
Waiting for my lifetime Mariners fan son to check in...

...or our resident Alaskan. He seems to be a big Seattle sports fan.
Surprised that the Marlins are sellers, this was supposed to be a turning point season for them. Moving into the new park, some good young talent...baseball is a "funny" game. Just ask my 5-time defending NL East Champions.![]()
Career .322 hitter, but this year he is down. At 38, the 10-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner is batting .261 with four home runs, 28 RBIs and 15 stolen bases.
He'll wear #31 with the Yankees. #51 hasn't been worn since Bernie Williams retired. C'mon...Bernie Williams? Good player, but if the Yankees take a jersey out of circulation for every good player they'll have to start issuing numbers with three digits.
That is kinda what I was thinking. I still remember the first time I ever saw him play live at a Chisox game. I simply couldn't believe how fast he got out of the box when he made contact. Kinda like he was running as he was swinging. I don't recall ever seeing anyone get to first any faster than him. Perhaps the trade to the Yanks will give him a boost for the rest of the season.
