What is the highest share Versus/NBC sports Network has ever gotten for a not playoff event?
There best open rating for the NHL was .44 so...... 1 seems a way off for the network.
Thoughts about the ratings.
20% is pretty good considering the Network as a whole has been down 20%.
Surely NHL is now helping people find the Network.
Surely Barber contributed to tuning in to LB great job by the Network, would it have been the same if ABC had covered the race?
If NHL is helping how big a help will the summer Olympics and Kentucky Derby coverage will be?
What no Danica, we don't need no Danica we got Manica acting fun and standing on Podiums.
In context of growth in NBC sport Network this is a great result, hopefully we can keep the snowball rolling down the hill... and not killed be bad coverage by ABC in the races it handling including the big one.
You cannot wrangle chaos. You can only try to plan for it.
1. It was one race. Barber was down on the same network 2 weeks ago. Lets see where the ratings are at the end of the year and we'll then be able to see how "up" or "down" they actually are. For sponsors, there is literally no difference between a .2 a .3 or a .5 anyway.
2. ABC's good or poor coverage plays no role in why people do or don't watch a Indy Car race. Continuing to blame ABC for Indy Car's poor ratings and lack of interest in this country is continuing to blame the wrong people. One day, some people around here will figure that out.
Newsflash for some of you...ABC's coverage of Indy Car races has ALWAYS sucked. Sucked in the 1970's, when Jim McKay and Sam Posey were doing the broadcasts. Sucked in the 80's, when they were more interested in showing Shelley Unser or Chris Mears then the actual race going on. Sucked in the 90's, when Paul Page had no idea who was in what car. Yet, ratings back then were infinitly better then they are now and got numbers that actual sponsors could get a ROI on.

I absolutely disagree, the previous event has more of a impact on a event then the event itself.
After the poor coverage at St Pete who would want to watch Barber except the absolutely hardcore fans. The great racing at Barber and coverage does nothing but encourage viewership.
Comparing any thing for prevous decades is pointless as there is a exponentially more entertainment options now. Yeah the rating were better if you are on 1 of 6 or even 20 choices.
Correct. We are talking about very small numbers and any variance is no doubt nothing more than sample variance.
If LB got a .35 we'll say there were 350K people watching. How small is that? For the fun of it we'll say that the viewers were evenly distributed across all 50 states (which we know is not true but it makes the math simple). That means there were 7000 people in each state watching. The difference between 6000 people per state and 7000 is miniscule.

1) ^^^ This.
2) 21 %! Yay!
And if the ratings go up 21% next year, and 21% the year after that as well that will mean that the 2015 race will be at the same level we were in 2010...and 2009...and 2008...and 2007...
21% over the lowest watched LBGP is still the second lowest watched LBGP. Ever.

http://www.boston.com/sports/other_s...atings/?page=2The network now hopes for another strong effort Sunday at Long Beach, and understands that requires providing action, analysis and telling compelling stories that keep the fans entertained.
"You come off a show like Barber and you have to be really proud of what you've done and take into consideration a lot of the feedback we've received," producer Rich O'Connor said. "You just have to build on that. At the end of the day, we work for NBC but we also work for the race fan."
Team owner Roger Penske said television ratings are linked to IndyCar's ability to grow the fan base, which can be done through consistent races in strong cities. Although he firmly believes ovals must be part of the schedule, Penske said city races such as Long Beach are critical in attracting new fans.
"Our issue with the TV ratings, we compete against golf and we compete against NASCAR on certain weekends, and they are established formats with an established base of fans and viewership," Penske said. "We're going to have to chip away at that a little bit at a time. But I feel very positive about the series, and we just need to stay the course."
Seriously, leave this in the IndyCar forum! It's the ratings for the race. It's about IndyCar. The business forum here is seen less than, well, NBCSN! There is no harm in Leaving this where the fans look!

Wasn't Jenna Fryer just an idiot enemy of INDYCAR two days ago?
I guess Tiger Woods was watching. Anything UP is good especially when following two that weren't up. I get to be the first to mention that there was a NASCAR Truck race from Rockingham on Speed that was heavily promoted that finished at about the TGPLB start and following that on Speed was a rebroadcast of the China F-1 race.
Until there's at least a 1 in front of the decimal point it doesn't take many more viewers to make a 21% jump and until the numbers get above water there should be less crowing and more effort put in to finding more fans.
Again stop trying to compare team sports and viewership on NBCSN to INDYCAR. Yes they have a first round NHL playoff game on the network that game is also on the local sports cable channel of BOTH of those teams which is likely the choice in those two cities. There are probably 3 other first round playoff games on the same day. And the fans in the other six cities are almost certainly watching their teams on their local cable channel. So the national audience of hockey fans for that one first round game is diluted many times over. If you want to compare NHL to INDYCAR ratings, the hockey ratings of all the games should be added up in the same vein as three day attendance totals.
The IICS race is the only one that Indycar fans have to watch.

Cue the dramatic music: IndyCar gets ratings bump (http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2012/0...-ratings-bump/)
“The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach scored a .35, up 21 percent from last year's race, prompting a sigh of relief after the .25 scored two weeks ago in the network's season debut."
Your about 8 hours late. This was posted in the Indycar forum this morning and is now in the Racing Biz section.

Not up against NASCAR or ALMS, or pretty much anything. Numbers that low are weird too, statistically. All you can sell is growth at this point.
I don't know. Very "meh" number which is unfortunate because I really want to see NBC Sport's excellent work pay off for them.
