Does anyone attend Pole Day to see who will qualify 33rd?
This entry list is a major downer to me too, but the pole battle will still be entertaining and I'd think teams would be practicing the new cars quite a bit in race trim if nothing else. There won't be much urgency to get in the top 24 on pole day though. It's certainly not worth cracking up a car when traveling 10 miles is likely all it will take to get in the race on Fill, I mean Bump Day.

Any engine lease agreement should have come with the requirement that any team could run as many cars as they wanted at Indianapolis and they HAD to supply the engines. If 40 cars run, and some of the big boys are to slow, tough, like in 1995.

It is not the car owners fault.. The engine companies will not supply additional entries even if the teams have the funding.. That is my gripe.. If I won the mega millions a couple weeks ago and wanted to enter a car I would not be able to because I could not get an engine.. That is BS..

Ohh, but that's the thing.
There are other owners out there that would like to play golf in the country club. Mike Shank, Eric Bachelart, Greg Beck all have chassis (or at least did). I bet there are a few others that could/would get involved if it wasn't such a stick in your eye to try and compete.
Here is the thing...if Mike Shank had the money (which I am guessing, he would for the Indy 500 considering there are drivers walking around RIGHT NOW with funding for Indy) he'd be at Indy in the #60 car. What's the problem? Our brilliant engine manufacturers have capped the field and don't want to service any other teams. Which means if you aren't a full-time team, you are screwed. We don't want any one-off teams or new teams effing up "our" factory supported teams.
All this does is keep the status quo going and keep any new potential Penske's or Ganassi's from getting involved. Which also keeps Penske (Chevy) and Ganassi (Honda) very happy and healthy. And the hell with everyone else.
34 cars for 33 spots. Fill Day will be a rager this year. Of course, one of these years we may just lose a couple of cars before they can actually qualify (with crashes and blown engines at the wrong time). That will be neat, won't it?

Because we have new engines and engine partners.. I would rather have a large field of entries for the Indy 500 then engine competition..
I don't buy tickets to root for engines.. Same goes for tires.. etc

I'll give Indycar a pass this year. Obviously it is not an ideal situation, but I understand it. 6 months or so ago people were worried that 33 cars may not show up for qualifying. Hell Cavin wrote an article about a month ago. So while I wish there were 40 cars and a better driver lineup, I'm just happy there will be 33 cars starting the race.
Next year though, no excuses. However, if Lotus does leave, I'm assuming engine leases between Honda and Chevy will go up and the field may not get much bigger next year anyhow.
sure does kill the "cinderella" story that most hoosiers were raised with... regarding basketball and bump day... so now that the class system has killed basketball what's the big deal if the lack of engines kills indy? face it folks nobody gives a dammmmit any longer about tradition or such. it's all about the mighty $$$$. this is a farce and everyone knows it no matter how much sugar is poured on it, it sucks bad!!!
the reason i used to go to indy was for the speed, daring, and excitement on the track first and the party second.. now, it's more to see friends and family, moreso a reunion around an event; than an event providing for a reunion. next year i may just go and stay outside the grounds... bummed i am

I don't know much about Indiana Basketball but the class system was a permanent change correct? This is 1 year after 3 solid bump days that you guys are throwing tantrums over. After driving 2000+ miles I would never go to that extreme - which is why I'm going to evaluate whether or not to renew my tickets after the Race this year. After 60 years of attending, pulling the plug won't be easy, but it's something I've been contemplating for a while.

Sat home for the 2009 race, which I did not miss anything since that race was a snoozefest.. Came back only because I missed seeing friends and the party.
This field of drivers really does not interest me at all. Seeing Bryan Clauson getting a ride does perk my interest.
And you didn't renew your prime seats in the NW Vista as a result. Not very smart.
