I doubt the winners in a race are pre-determined but one thing is for certain, Nascar works very hard at modifying the rules of their racing, even while the race is actually happening, for the best possible effect and outcome for the fans. They've taken that form of auto racing and pushed it to the edge of a true sport vs. just another form of entertainment.
Yet, you said the races winner is pre-determined...are you backing away from that accusation now...just curious...

Don't worry about it Howard, its just another formula car fan that is jealous of NASCAR and their success. That jealously just fuels their hate of NASCAR.

I don't agree...more often than not it is a no brainer...been that way for years...but, I'll still watch...actually, I think the Super Bowl is THE Event...

Uncle Jacques Villeneuve and Hector Rebaque would disagree.

That is why I said most.. not all.. btw both your examples are from the mid 1980's..

Hell I figured you would have went with Greg Moore at Detroit in 1997.

    I don't know.

If the Super Bowl is "the only one that matters" why play the rest of the season.

It's a SERIES. Indy is the biggest event.

I know you understand that. You love NASCAR, Daytona is the biggest event in that season.

Why run the crappy race at Kansas then?

    And then IndyCar.

You gotta play the rest to get to the Super Bowl...ditto NBA, MLB, NHL...Cup Championship is a big payoff...gotta run 'em to get the really big check...and it wasn't me who said Indy is the only one that matters...my response was a bit akin to Duane Thomas' response when asked how it felt to play in the ultimate game...

“If the Super Bowl is the ultimate game, how come there is another one next year?”

I think you missed Mario Kart on Wii. I think it's fair to assume Paff would also have that slated ahead of today's IndyCar.

Only when it suits Chris and right now it doesn't. Jenson Button would disagree with him too, but something tells me that Jenson would not give Mr. Paff the time of day. Righfully.

While I agree wtih most of that statement, I doubt you're an F1 fan. You certainly don't know the history behind it.

wow, i consider myself a F-1 fan; but what history?? i started following it in the 60's while reading "road & track". cut pictures out and put on my wall and such... but history?? what history?? i could name a few drivers in the 60's - 80's, but not many after that.. what history??

so i'm not a fan?? where do people get off on telling others that they're not fans of something?? what, now we have differing "classes" of fandom?? "i'm a better fan than you" type stuff? really? what's up with that kurt?

because I have an attention span on more than 3 seconds

I can appreciate a well driven and engineered race over the course of an entire event. Lap 1 is as important as the final lap. If the final lap were the only important one, races would be one lap long

I'll answer that by telling you about Chris' past posts. He talks about them damn furriners and how they are ruining the sport of Indycar--fine that's cool. Well look at F1 where there's no Yanks. Yet he says he watches? And a LOT of fans know about the history of their respective sport. I do. Read a Dave L post and you know he certainly knows his onions about the history of auto racing. Read any of Lotus' posts or TD's or most anyone else here (sorry if I'm omitting anyone).

And that goes with other sports too. Now, I'm not saying just 'cause you admit you don't know doesn't make you ANY less a fan. But yeah, I'll snob out and say I'm more of an F1 fan than Chris (just like he's more of a NASCAR fan than me--actually I'm only casual--but I damn well know the history of it). That's what's up and that's where I "get off." Actually, Chris would probably admit that as I would him on NASCAR and maybe IndyCar (well more of the IRL).

If he thinks there's domination in F1 he hasn't been watching this year. Four races, four different winners, three different engine makers. In previous years, yes, but not so far this year. Heck, a Sauber has even made the podium this year.

Kurt you really do not get my positions on foreign drivers and Indycar at all.. I respect F1 for what it is.. Indycar is not F1 and was never suppose to be a dumb down version of F1 either..
