Yeah, I agree with this point.

People know that I like Chris and that while he and I disagree, we get along for sure.

But this is really my biggest problem with his point of view.

He's not as big of an IndyCar fan as he used to be, because of foreign drivers and road courses.

But he watches F1, which is ALL foreign drivers and ALL road courses.

He loves Grand Am, which is 50 percent foreign drivers and ALL road courses.

The point of view seems very selective and quite contradictory.

Respectfully, I'd say quite a bit. Now I certainly don't pretend to know it all and don't.

I can appreciate a well driven and engineered race over the course of an entire event. Lap 1 is as important as the final lap. If the final lap were the only important one, races would be one lap long
Or would have questionable cautions to tighten up the field at the end of nearly every event.

Not really, I realize GA and F1 are road racing series.. Indycar is not supposed to be a road racing series.. I also understand GA and F1 have little chance to be anything more then what they are currently because their form of racing will never be popular in the USA. That is the same reason why Indycar is not regaining any popularity.

I wouldn't say you don't know F1, I would just say you don't seem to appreciate it

Indycar is supposed to be a mix of ovals and road races.

Although you'd probably call Indycar a road racing series if there was only one road race and the rest were ovals.
We drive 800 miles every year to see them go 500 miles. And we're glad to do it.

    I disagree with you completely..

Indycar as it stands right now is a road racing series with a few oval races thrown in.. Anything more then 50% road racing is a road racing series to me..

If there were a 50/50 split, would you be happy if there were exciting road races?

What makes for a good road race in Indycars? What makes for a good street race in Indycars?

Or, the bigger question here is, will you admit that there is such a thing as a good road race or a good street race in Indycars if such criteria are met?

I guess you don't read my posts.. I thought & posted both Barber and Long Beach were good road/street races.. I enjoyed Long Beach more since there was some drama and excitment in the final laps with Simon attempting to catch Power..

Well, I guess this is further proof that the world's ending in 2012.

hey youngster , you may be getting chris and i mixed up... i'm one of the most ovalcentric indycar fans on the forum, but you know that eh?

i'll be more than satisfied with 1 or 2 road/street races. long beach for tradition sake and st. pete for the streets and hmmm say barber and watkins glen for the roadies; that's about it.

then run the short ovals, 1 1/2 milers, and 500 milers at indy, fontana, and michigan...

but, then i must remind you that iics is not wanting the fan that fits my demographic, either. old fart widower with little or no disposable income. so it really doesn't matter. and on these boards i have been called a non-fan too.. wgas?

i'm very satisfied the younger fans like you will do very well in holding the series management to the fire in the years to come.
so in the mean time i can be an old fart geezer that likes watching those openwheeled rockets whizzing past; while enjoying the two-legged eye candy too!

but let me tell ya something kiddo... things were always better in the good ole days! have been for every generation and when you get "old" like me.. betcha say the same thing

so when you gonna organize the Mardi Gras Grand Prix around the streets in the quarter? canal would be a fast straight away!!
returning to the days of ignorant bliss..

There's a new road course being built about 10 miles from my house: NOLA Motorsports Park. The layout is great, but I think it's more of a club racing circuit. However, it'd be awesome if there could be a test out there.

As for the 500 milers, I'd be fine if they dumped Fontana and added Pocono. Michigan and Fontana are too similar for my tastes.

As for the whole road/street races, how can we dump the street races that have

a.) been on the schedule a long time
    b.) had massive crowds

Toronto has been on the schedule since 1986 (except 2008) and Baltimore had a large crowd there last year.

Bernard was on 1070 with JMV last year in December. He said the average age of the fanbase is three years younger than it was the last time they did a mass survey. The series needs to go after the younger demographic since this shift has become more apparent.

That being said, the regulations need to be opened up, and not a moment too soon.
