Why Is Ron Artest Not In Jail?

Probably over ten million eye witnesses to Ron Artest's assault on James Harden this afternoon but he's not in jail.

This is new? Not to Indianapolis or Detroit - have to admit I was not one of the 10 million. I guess it will make the "lowlights" on the sports later tonight.

I used to enjoy his clown act in Indianapolis when it was relatively tame. Harden definitely tried to interrupt Metta World Peace's celebration, but the elbow was anything but inadvertent.

What in the world are you watching? Harden didn't do anything! Metta Moron World Thug ran into him and Harden put his arm up! Harden wasn't even looking at him! Where were L.A.'s finest to cuff this man? Ernest

I disagree. It looked like Harden was just trailing the play and hadn't had time to turn around and run back down the court. He looks 100% innocent in this.

I don't see how the player formally known as Ron Artest could possibly be permitted to play the rest of this season, at a minimum.

Mr. World Peace deserves a minimum of 5 games for this act. Based on his lengthy past issues, it wouldn't surprise me if he was given more.

I completely agree with you. How much prison time do you think Artest would get if he pulled this on a city street other than Los Angeles?

Artest/WorldPeace will get a wrist slap. The NBA wants the Lakers fully staffed for the playoffs. This will be a decision made by the NBA's marketing department; not by the rules/officiating department. IF he gets suspended, he'll be back before the playoffs. Probably take a single game off; if that.

I think they have to do something. This isn't Artest first rodeo. He is a problem child. I would like to see him suspended for at least the rest of the season and playoffs. Artest is a walking timebomb ready to go off again at anytime. Ernest

There are very few sports figures that I truly loathe, but he is one of them. I think he might be in need of clinical help. He doesn't belong on a basketball court.

Probably won't get his second NBA Citizenship Award this year but then again, how the hell did anyone vote to give Artest such an award last year.

Artest is lucky that Kendrick Perkins wasn't standing nearby when it happened. Perk might have put Artest into a coma.

Does anyone else think that Artest was "lucky" his elbow landed behind the guy's ear, had he hit the guy in the temple, this conversation could be more about criminal proceedings, not league suspension.

Whether Artest meant to do harm is irrelevant, it was unprovoked and violent.

    No, it won't.
This clown once pulled an opposing player's shorts down as a defensive tactic.
    He's a jerk.

My guess is the NBA will wait until they determine the severity of injury to the other player before making a decision on fine/suspension. With only seeing the video a couple of times, I think it was intentional and malicious. If I were the NBA commissioner, I would suspend him for the rest of the regular season (which is only one game I believe) and the entire post season.

You're not even close with your ten games prediction. This is the same guy who went into the stands a few years back. He is gone for this year. That elbow could have easily killed Harden. His apology after the game sounded very hollow to me. Although you are certainly an expert on hyperbole, you are wrong here. Ernest

I think you are right on the money. If he had done that on the street, he does prison time. Ernest

On the street to an average unsuspecting person, sure he gets arrested....if he's apprehended and doesn't flee. However, in the streets versus someone else from the streets, no way. Things are just handled differently.

So apparently he didn't realize he hit him.

Which I totally buy. I mean, when I land my elbow hard on seemingly hard objects, I don't pay any mind to it. Not like it would hurt or I would notice it or anything.

IMO it appeared to be intentional.

And also, IMO, it should be a minimum 1 year (365) day suspension.

At most, a lifetime ban from the league, immediately.

  27. #27
Why did Harden push him? You shove somebody for no reason, you deserve to get decked. Harden should get the same punishment as Meta World Peace for instigating the situation.

And to answer the thread subject, it's because if this happened on the street, Harden would be the one being arrested.

I think there should be criminal charges whether it's on or off the court. This is definately assult and there was no provocation. I'm not into the NBA much but this stuff makes me sick.
