I don't know if anyone has suggested this but....make the 500 field 30 for 2012.
Makes it sound more exclusive!!

So with 31 or 32 entries, there will still be bump Sunday. It would be embarrassing
if the field is supposed to be 33 and there are only 31 entries.

Only in this context is 33 just a number. The number of spots available isn't that important, but if you don't have enough entries to fill the spots that are available (all you have to do is show up and you're in) then it's an embarrassment.

3 1/2 weeks before the race is too late to make that big of a change for the 2012 race; and I don't think anyone in IMS or INDYCAR is willing to suggest that change for 2013 because of the historical significance of having 11 rows of 3.

Horse is already out of the barn on that one. The only people that know about 33 are the ones that would know we had to reduce the field maximum in order to have a bump day.

It's lame either way.
