OK, thanks. I didn't remember the front wings being yellow, but then there is alot I don't remember from that day.
Gary B had red front wings and since he lead most of that day, that might be what you were remembering.
On a side note, Gary B's car has been restored to a replica of Donohue's car for the Penske Museum. The car in this photo, however, is Donohue's real winning car and is owned by IMS.

I was thinking the 60's and that amazing motor, but a flathead? Just for the experience I would gladly add that to the list......as well as the Miller V-12, was it? There's nothing like excess, especially in the world of cylinders.

Now yes the Ford motored vehicle is nice but which car exactly is that #8? I may have another to add to the list. That is one lug of a machine.

note: 'Regarding Mark's '72 winning car, I actually preferred the looks of the '71 Sunoco McLaren. Albeit, they're both extremely gorgeous cars. And the more we have to look at the "generic, cookie-cutters" of today, the more beautiful those cars of yesteryear become.

They did not want to get all oily.
Clark's winning Lotus, followed by Scott Brayton's pole winner from 1995. That car was pretty.
We drive 800 miles every year to see them go 500 miles. And we're glad to do it.

Maybe it WAS the 71 Sunoco McLaren I was thing of and not the 72? That's why I questioned the yellow front wings. Anyone have a pic of the 71 version?
