Sorry, I work a 3:45pm - 2:30 am shift, so I wasn't able to post this yesterday. Great read about the '82 San Marino GP.

Yep, great article. Thanks for sharing.
I really hated Pironi after this and thought that his crash in Germany later that season was justice. I think I was wrong, Ferrari team orders and signals were very unclear, probably for a reason. I have recienty met some people who knew Pironi and said what a great, charming guy he was. How would he have known what was going to happen to Gilles at the next race?
There is some fascinating stuff on that site. Also very disturbing. The comment thread following the story about von Tripps death at Monza contains a link to footage of the crash I had never seen. It's about as horrible as anything I've ever watched.
I ain't quiet, everybody else is too loud.
Here's the story - the video link is in the comments.

Leave it to the Germans to publish gruesome racing crashes. When Pedro Rodriguez burned to death in a Ferrari 512, Der Speigel ran a full spread photo center section of the scene when the fire went out, classy. Still, the movie shows Jimmy Clark was totally blameless in the crash as Von Tripps clearly moved over on Clark and he just had no where to go.

Autosport hard copy has also published a greatarticle on Gilles because it is coming upto 30 years on 8th May for losing him at Zolder. It is a well written article also talking about what could have been. The 1980s could have been a Senna v Villeneuve decade.
