Fresh news from Bertrand Baguette about WEC and Indy 500

"Breadman" has a priority: WEC, but he still hopes to take part in Indy 500, even if it will be very hard.

Hang out bump day with a helmet in hand. If the Lotuses are slow there may be some Honda and Chevy teams that decide to just throw a car out there for the paycheck if its almost a sure thing.

Yeah, I do anticipate that on bump day there will be a lot of spare engines sitting around since the manufacturers will overbuild out of an abundance of caution. The question is will there be enough extra chassis to put them in and enough time to get the contracts done to get them put in.

Would they not have to have entered those cars already?

In the past, backup cars sat without engines. That was when they were plentiful. Now we have a limited supply...

I suspect that if the Lotus cars are way off pace in practice they might start talking to Chevy and Honda. Both should have many engines available. And remember that an engine that qualifies on bump day only needs to run bump day and carb day before the race. By then they may be more liberal with the blocks, since they have gotten through most of the month.

I really would rather have him than Michael Jordain Jr.. but like the Breadman said himself he doesnt have $$, which it what he needs. Hope he is there and works on a ride for next year, hopefully alongside with Pagenound on SSM/Hamilton.

No there won't be. He'd be advised to stay home and save his airfare.

Probably won't happen this year, but I sure hope the Breadman comes back for 2013.

There is probably a WEC team that will hire him to drive. And unless he spends the next 9 months hunting for money he won't have an Indycar ride in 2013 either.

Anybody walking the garage on bump day this year will still be in street clothes at 6PM.

Pretty sure he already has a full-time WEC drive

Because he was hired for his talent and is probably making some real money instead of being told to come up with $4 million to get a ride. WEC would be my priority too.

Agreed. He has a factory ride on an LMP1 team FFS. Ok, not a winning factory, but still a paying seat on the current top tier of sports car racing. Don't blame him one damn bit.

Maybe he can drive the Newman/Haas car if Alesi's deal falls through.

It's a great shame that a driver who was so competitive at Indy last year will probably be on the sidelines this year.

Not that Lotus or NH would have any better chances with Bertrand in the car, but he would without question give it a better run than Alesi would.

Can you elaborate on how you know this to be true?
