After the meal.... A Cigar Anyone?

For the last couple of years I have decided to start enjoying a Cigar. Usually AM and PM provide a good time to spend an hour with or so after a meal with my mate, a friend, a drink and a cigar.

I know, those stinky things, but I went on a quest for the "GREAT CIGAR", and actually found that cigars do have a flavor to be enoyed as well as providing a time frame to sit back, and pair the nicotine indulgence with friends and a drink. There are even boutique cigars infused with herbs and spices that make an aroma that many people enjoy.

You don't huff down a cigar like a cigarette. You quietly enjoy the experience and pair it with anther joy. A discussion, a drink, a sunset, a book, etc. You need at least 45 minutes to savor any cigar, and some you have to commit as much as 2 to 2.5 hours.

My favorites run to a medium/hearty smoke. Nougats of carmel, chocolate, coffee and spice need to be present in the flavor. I have found that I prefer a Nicarraguan (sp?) tobacco and maduro wrapper. Padron's are my go to cigar, with the 1926 Anniversary Serie topping the list. These are best paired with a red wine or a good coffee and after a BIG red meat meal.

How about the rest of you?

    Yes!
My fav Cohiba XV. Closest thing I've had to a real Cuban Cohiba and the real Cuban are definitely the best....

    No thank you.
And thanks for not lighting up in my foursome too.

I never got the whole Golf and Cigar thing. The cigar just gets in the way.
Btw, I ALWAYS ask if people mind if I enjoy a cigar, except at my house, where people are INVITED to join me and Enjoy a cigar.
And I always smoke outside except at Cigar Lounges where they use good air circulators. I won't smoke inside without an air circulator since it affects others.

I enjoy the smell of a good cigar more when somebody else is smoking it.

I share George Carlin's view of cigars. NSFW, or polite society for that matter.

There was a time I had a line on real Cohibas and smoked them often. No more, however. Once I put the cigs away that was it. All it would take for me is one puff and I'd be back on the stuff. Like Frank, I do enjoy the smell of them.

Very well said irloyal!! I too find the enjoyment of my cigars enhanced when the time is shared with good company and a good drink. My wife and I were in Savannah several weeks ago. Each evening we would sit in "our" square, with a drink, a book, and me with a cigar. I don't smoke specific brands, I just ask the person in the cigar store for a recommendation in the $7-$8 range and go with it.

I really enjoy an occasional Cuban. Cohiba's are good, but I like H Uppmans. I've found that Davidoff's are REAL CLOSE, but at $12 to $50 a stick, they are pretty pricey.

I went in a cigar store in Bangkok a couple years ago and asked the clerk if they had any Cubans. He looked at me funny a couple seconds and then said "Sir, they are ALL Cubans".

I'll bet you'd like the aroma of a Drew Estate Isla Del Sol (coffee infused) or an Acid Kuba Kuba or Blondie. My wife is not a big cigar fan, but she actually likes the aroma of these, and they are a pretty decent smoke too.

My wife shares time with me when I have a cigar. We often sit on the porch and discuss the day (or just watch it go by) while I have a smoke. I love it when she takes an unlit cigar from me, pulls the cutter out of my pocket (OOHHH!) and cuts the cigar for me.

I did always like the smell of my Grandfather's pipe tobacco growing up.

I used to, but referring to the booze thread, if I have a little too much, I start inhaling. That's never good; you'd think I'd learn. So, I just enjoy the smell if someone else has one.

I enjoy them. Mostly have Partagas Robustos and Macanudo Maduro Diplomats. But I like all good handrolled cigars.

Yes, the Partagas is a nice smoke. It's good after any meal, I especially like it with Hawaiian Coffee. If you like Partagas I imagine you like Davidoffs too?

It cost my father $1200 of 1965 dollars to find out I was allergic to the rope hangin' under that schnazz of his........it was a miserable existence for me but he took em outside after that.....when I get near one my sinuses still start to swell and the eyes get scratchy, so I'll pass......and I'll pass anyone burnin' one.

    Jeff,

That's what I thought, too, but I tempted fate and tested myself and I was able to enjoy a cigar with some business associates in a cigar bar a few months ago even though I quit smoking 4.5 years ago.

It was enjoyable, but my clothes REEKED the next morning, and I didn't have any strong desire to do it again, thankfully. I might smoke one a few times a year if the opportunity presents itself, but that's it for this ex-smoker.

i've always wanted to try Davidoffs. Perhaps I'll cya at the track & we can exchange? I plan to camp in Lot 1A.

In my humidor I have Montecristos, A Fuetes, H Uppmans among others. Along with a couple boxes of Partagas and Macanundo Diplomats,

I like the Lagroria Cubanas, but I think they priced themselves out of their original market. Try a Montesino. Easy to find, they smoke even, and you know you're smoking a cigar. Relatively cheap too.

I'm skipping Indy this year. I'll be watching on TV from a beach at about 7am.

Anybody going to Texas? If so I'll be happy to coordinate a Cigar meeting in Denton.

    Low,
    My Humidor currently has:
La Vieja Habana Maduros - Nice everyday smoke. $2.50 each. Nicaraguan Long and short filler with a nice Brazillian wrapper.
Davidoff 2000 - A few for that time when I desire a Cuban like smoke
Padron Londres Maduro - My regular favorite
Padron 5000 Maduro - A really good box press
AF Short Story - I have these in the Dominican and the Dominican Maduro
Drew Estate Blondie - For going out in public and I want to have a really nice aromatic cigar
Isla Del Sol - Another Drew Estate blend with coffee infusion
Padron 1926 - Best Smoke ever. Always a couple in the humidor, but at $25 each they don't come out too often.
CAO Brazillia Go's - Another nice maduro.
CAO Italia - Mild to medium with hints of spice

Right about now I could use a Cohiba, a glass of Lagavulin 16, and a nice ... you know what, I'm going to keep the rest of that to myself.

loyal, I might be up for that. I usually go to Texas for the Sat nite race. Haven't firmed it up yet because I've been doing so much planning on Indy.

Hawaii is nice but it ain't Indy.

Found a nice cigar in Kauai. Island Prince. They are Kauai grown tobaccos and rolled in Nicaraugua. Some puro's, and a few blends with a Nic maduro wrapper or a Dominican Connecticurt wrapper. I smoked several on the Islands and brought a few back for the humidor. If you are interested they are avaialble on-line and worth the $10 -$15 price tag. They go great with a Koko Mocha and a Hawaiian sunrise.

We have friends that bring me a cigar back from Hawaii every year. This year's version was VERY good, may have been the ones you are speaking of. Not sure, as I didn't keep the band, but I do recall the price tag was $15 and I thought it was worth evey penny.

Looks like I might be heading up there. So what do you have in mind for Denton?

I enjoy the occasional CAO Box-press Cameroon wrapper.
