Celebrity Chef Tapped To Drive Indy 500 Pace Car

Guy Fieri Host Food Network Shows

    UPDATED: 2:57 pm EDT May 3, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS -- Celebrity chef Guy Fieri may be spicing things up behind the wheel at this month's Indianapolis 500. RTV6's Sports Director Dave Furst reports that the Food Network star has been tapped to drive the pace car.Speedway officials declined to comment on the speculation, but said a formal announcement would be made next week.

Fieri rose to fame after winning "The Next Food Network Star" in 2006, and now hosts "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives," "Guy's Big Bite" and "Tailgate Warriors" on the network.

He's visited Indianapolis with his "Diners" crew more than once, profiling several local eateries, including Zest, Steer-In Restaurant, the Tamale Place and Jerseys Café.

Fieri is also a known fan of fast cars. His $200,000 2008 yellow Lamborghini was recovered this week after it was stolen in a daring heist last year.

Fieri lives in northern California with his wife, Lori, and their two sons, Hunter and Ryder.

What's funny about that show is it makes you so hungry because of all the awesome looking food and you grab a bag of crap like cheetos or something so not only do you get fatter but you don't even get the pleasure of enjoying the good food

Like the guy love the show but he's not big enough to drive the pace car

He's big enough to share a seat on the trunk with slash or rupert during the pre race but not drive the damn thing on the start

Seems like a good hire to me. Hopefully, there is an Indy themed Food Network special to go along with this.

I haven't even read the comments on this yet. Just saw it online on yahoo. What a joke all this is. It really shows a lack of respect to the honor and privilege of Driving the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. It's pure disgrace imo.

Since I'm one of the ones that would never be happy unless it was a former winner I will just not post a comment.

Right, because Elaine Irwin Mellencamp and Morgan Freeman make more sense

You guys aren't right in the head. This guy is a huge star recognizable to many millions. He is a car guy. It's a great choice for the pace car driver.

Man... this forum really sucks sometimes.

Ditto. Man, there's a lot of hate in this thread. I like the guy and am happy he will be driving the pace car.

Do we know who's waving the green flag yet? I hope it's someone equally as popular that the old fogies of Trackforum don't know.

Good choice on the driver. The pace car pilot is not for the hardcores anyways, and it might drum up exposure to the series.

Ugh, the last thing we need is another Turn One pileup this season

The most natual choice, especially after last year, would probably be Tanner Foust.

I can see it now, just before the green flag the pace car comes drifting out of Turn 4 and then does 3 donuts between Turn 4 and pit in before going into the pits.
